It's been a while but hey it's winter time, it's quiet out here, I'm bored, so I've come back on for some taxi banter!

Two things that I'd like to bring up

1. The council are charging on top of the £275 annual test fee the £141 new vehicle fee if you present a new vehicle at test time, this fee is currently charged if you replace your vehicle out with your annual test but some not so bright spark at our council has decided to charge it also at test time, effectivily charging twice for the same administrative work!

As Skull would say " you couldn't make this up".

2. Our council also charged £50 for testing a camera that an owner had fitted to his taxi so he could save money on his insurance, the problem is, our cab office doesn't currently have access to the footage, so what did they test when charging £50?

Time our trade grew a pair

I am sure the £50 does not apply to Dash Cam's

Well, if it's a dash cam all you need to know, is what criteria is being used as a reference point to evaluate the camera, it could be as simple as a Health and Safety issue? :-|

Although, how they've come up with a £50 charge is beyond me... #-o

Skull the £50 charge is to inspect the camera is in working order but the cab office can't really do this just now because they don't have any legal right to check footage etc, only the police and insurance company have that right, why they charged the £50 is beyond me, especially as it was a new motor as well, the guy got charged the £50+£141+ the £275, he was also a new owner so had paid the £1k on top, there's serious ripping off cabbies going on by our council, action is being taken so the council must disclose the spend on our trade, the sums must add up

Thanks Chris, doing okay, there's a new guy at the council who's making it up as he goes, he's acting without consulting the trade, from what I hear he's failing to grasp the CGSA , the section concerning the Taxi trade, anyway we are lobbying the licensing committee with our concerns, it's a case of watch this space.

Tell the family I'm asking for them, hope you enjoy the banter.

Yes voted Yes :D

Doug, I think you are missing the point. You need to know what criteria the cab office is using to test the dash cam as a reference point, against which other things can be compared to know exactly what they are testing for. As you have already stated, they don't have any legal right to check the camera is working or to see the film footage, so what's the purpose of the test? :?

Think about it Doug, so far you are being charged £50 to see if the camera is plugged in and switches on. #-o #-o #-o #-o #-o

Oh and Doug, if it were me, I would not be handing over £50 until I knew exactly what the test was for and how they came up with this level of charge in the first place? :-|

Agreed Skull, charging £50 for what, questions are being asked of the individual who is dreaming up this charge and the £141 on top if you put a new cab on at test time.

The £141 will be an administration charge for the change of vehicle. :-|

Skull what Douglas is saying If you changed your vehicle at the same time as the test you only paid one fee, the test fee, now changing your vehicle at test time you get two fees, the test fee £267 and the change of vehicles fee £141

Ah I see and does the £267 test fee still apply if the vehicle is brand new? :-k

New cab at test time now over £400, lesser amount of administrative/Inspection work and only one set of new plates, cheap at double the price not
