I have had a call today from the hardware shop, Wilkinsons. They are going to install a freephone in the shop for customers to ring for a taxi. They asked if I would be interested in tendering. I politely refused. They asked me why. I told them that the store is in the middle of a pedestrian precinct and there was no vehicle access.
Done their homework here.

same here but the council wrote to all operators saying taxi's were ok to use the area, as were blue badge holders

the cops and traffic wardens play ball, i didnt ask about private hire vehicles, i didnt want to confuse them too much

Don't they have a rear of the building for deliveries where customers could wait?

No. Deliveries are at the front of the store after 4.00pm. usually deliveries are at around 9-10 pm. We did have bollards at each way into the zone but they have stopped using them because the emergency services could not even go in to the zone during the day time because no one knew where the key would be.

Emergency services can enter. Disabled can't, cyclists are supposed to dismount but most don't.
