isn't it the modus operandi of most PH outfits - they have the telephone number and they don't actually employ anyone save for telephonists?

for the PH mob to start questioning the ethics of UBER is quite amazing really

who the councils?

Well think about it, the technology works whether it is licensed or not just like any other app on your phone. I can phone you direct or I can press a button, what's the difference, if the driver and vehicle is licensed anyway?

Okay, they've made Uber apply for a Ph operators licence but strictly speaking, it's a technology platform, which is now registered as a licensed Ph company. :?

yeah that's a good point - but obviously uber are aware that allowing f*ckwits and sex pests to download their app and be drivers will seriously dent their image - hence their willingness to go along with UK law.........which is actually better than many laws across the world in respect of PH

me too - isn't Edinburgh always full of tourists from cities that already have uber?

who's gonna download a local app when they have a global one that serves them well?

it genuinely makes me laugh - I have seen similar things in other parts of the country, the only people that download local apps are locals who are already customers - its like berts taxis from shap trying to take on Addison lee ffs

The thing is, with these sharp cookies running the taxi companies there is nothing to stop Uber taking over. And just think, you decide you want to put your car on as a Ph to work the weekends, now all you need is Satnav and an app. =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D>

The times they are changing..... =D> =D> =D> =D> =D>

'Rideshare’ app targets Edinburgh taxi trade

Mr Kenmuir, who has 470 taxis in his fleet, added: “We are not against competition. But we are counting on the licensing authority, the police and the public to make sensible decisions about their safety.

Liar.

Central have been actively lobbying and campaigning against increased taxi numbers for years.

And the sensible decisions he wants the council to take are those required to protect him and his vested interest. Kenmuir and his cronies couldn't run a p*ss up in a brewery without the protection of the funny handshakers in the council.

Uber alles.

I wish Uber every success in rogering the Edinburgh trade. The long suffering Edinburgh Taxi travelling public are long overdue a fair deal.

Free enterprise can liberate customers from the grip of the big taxi companies.

And ditto for the driver slaves.

Edinburgh gets lots of tourists - a global app will mean the end of a lot of ££££££££ fares

Nope, Edinburgh is full of hackneys, globally recognised as the London cab.
There presence alone is the most powerful and consistent advertising you can get for a public hire vehicle.
And guess what you only have to hop in, or stick your hand out.

No Bailing out from me, over 900 black cabs, around 2000 Cabbies all working our current App, around 400 street cars and I've been one myself, these operators just work the street because they can't be bothered working a circuit, Uber are no competition to the black cab trade in Edinburgh, highlighting Edinburgh, over 80% of the work is city centre, the average fare in Edinburgh is around £7, can't see the Edinburgh market as a top target for Uber, it maybe a threat to the PH but not the black cab trade, so it's onwards and upwards Skull :D

Any one who knows the Edinburgh market and thinks otherwise is just a sourgraper

I'm not against trying the black cab apps as its 50p a job, but I gave in after not being able to install it properly, that was years ago tho.
We've had time2taxi,and cabapp in Edinburgh for over three years now, halo which works well in other areas haven't bothered.
Why might a Phc app be any better ??

I think you and Dougie need to get a room together. #-o

You do realise that Uber is expected to rake in around £80,000,000 this year alone, and that's not because their app does not work or the public and taxi/Ph drivers don't use it. Oh and have a wee look at London, the hack trade down there is far from happy with with Uber?

Nah, I'm afraid boys your trade is in for another financial kicking from this new technology platform. And at the very least, you are going to get a flood of Ph cars working part-time, especially over peak periods and what about the street cars, there's nothing to stop them signing up to Uber?
