I presume from the interest in the case you are to object against a fare increase?
Quite the oposite, we haven't had a fare increase since 2008 despite many requests. We are also appealing against the councils decision to remove several of our tariffs which we use for our MPV's. We did have 8 tariffs, 1-4 for up to four passengers and then 5-8 for over four passengers. The council have done away with tariffs 5-8 in favour of a one off charge of 50p per person over four. the net result is a loss on MPV rates up to £1.20 PER MILE on the worst effected tariff.
There are also some quirky side effects to their new set up in that a vehicle carrying 8 passengers can now be charged £10 for the 1st mile, which is 117% increase on the original tariff. Yes we do want an increase but this was ridiculous.
The committee wanted this to run for a trial period of 12 months running from Oct 20th 2014, however the licensing Dept have failed to notify anyone, other than those who apply for a new Hackney Carriage license, of the change to the table of fares to date. This has now caused a two tier table of fares in the county.
So basically it's been a major F..k up and many are either breaking the law by still charging under the old tariff, or newly licensed Hackneys running at a loss when compared to others.
