Uber and Get taxi are both apps, but that's where the similarity ends.

One uses sat nav jockeys imported from afar using saloon cars, the other sticks with the recognisable WAV taxi fleets of London, Edinburgh, Liverpool, Birmingham, Glasgow and Manchester where drivers have to do The Knowledge or their provincial equivalent.

Now I've no idea of how the Edinburgh circuits work or the politics behind their committees, but I do know it costs thousands to join and and involves monthly subscriptions even if, as pointed out, you're off on holiday or sick, hence GT has taken off down here. A set fee for every job and that's it. Weekends are free. Don't use it, don't pay. =D>

My driver tablet shows jobs from all across the country (You can filter it not to) and I'm seeing lots of pre booked work in Edinburgh and Manchester, and that's only the pre booked stuff, I wouldn't see instant hails unless I'm in the area.

Personally whilst I don't like the idea of paying ANYTHING for work, I've now accepted people want to use their phones for everything, so who am I to turn my nose up at business? Tradition doesn't pay my bills.

So if I'm up North heading along the city bypass and the GT tablet goes off . . . . . .I wonder what Edinburgh punters would think of the London tariff?

Fill your boots GBC, this Edinburgh crowd don't want the work anyway. They would rather people walked the streets looking to hail a cab after failing to get through on the phones.... #-o #-o #-o #-o #-o #-o #-o

I know if I am up the toon, it will be Uber or Get Taxi I will be using... =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D>

Well thought I would give the get taxi app a try I will see how it goes for a month , nothing gained nothing ventured as they say , with the way things are in the company at the moment who knows what's going to happen next . If the committee find out what's the worst that can happen throw me out ???? my position is worthless as nobody wants to buy into a company that is failing the members .

The data on your phone and any information held by Get Taxi is covered by the data protection act. So if anyone asks you say nothing or "I don't know what you are talking about". =D> =D> =D> =D>

The Taxi app can be used by any licensed black cab driver and holds the same conflict of interest as a street pickup, and as you have a public hire license nobody can do anything to you.
However if the demand for street pick ups or apps override your commitment to your radio company then they are well within there rights to suspend you and only then can they take action.
The company's can threaten and scare drivers with expulsion if they get caught using the app this is normal procedure, but in reality sense the company cannot do anything unless the driver ignores radio work for either street work or app and then they would have to prove it.

We are all self employed we pay these company's for a service and if they fail you start looking else where.

Our Radio Circuits used to say similar, threaten similar etc, now they advertise for drivers every month in the trade papers. #-o

Get taxi in London has about 4000 drivers. That almost equals the Com Cab fleet.
