Don't take any notice of the MPG figures, they're done in a laboratory with the minimum of weight in the car, the car is stripped of everything including the dashboard seats spare wheel carpets etc etc.
The figures are from drivers I know who were putting in 15-20p per mile in mondeos and skodas and are now putting in 10p per mile in the hybrids at the end of their shift. Every one of them says its halved their fuel costs.

My own Passat is only doing 39MPG, these people live on moon who say they get over 50MPG, they aren't driving with any lights, heaters or radios.

my Mondeo has averaged 45.20 over the last 18000 miles of work.

bear in mind that's a mix of city and motorway work its a 200 bhp diesel and gets driven in a spirited fashion

if I do a long haul motorway run it will do 58/60 fill to fill

My Mondeo Mk3 (55 plate, 150PS) did a TRUE 47-49mpg, with the odd 51mpg over its 120,000/4 years with me, that was the old 2ltr chaindrive cam Duratorq, the new ones are a PSA cambelt or old Endura unit

Agree Nidge, I prefer per mile based on my day's mileage, on different days my fuel cost can be different depending on the jobs I do, 100 mile one day can cost £21 but on another it could be as low as £17, I never wanted to understand this MPG crap

My sister got a brand new motor last year, they were touting it out to do 60MPG and 45MPG urban, she got 35MPG urban and 51MPG on the motorway. She went back to the dealership who said, you have to take it up with Volvo they do the tests.

It's false advertising IMO.

what model/engine is it nige?

WTF are they driving, V8 Mondeos? 20p a mile is about 20mpg!
I guess it's due to the area we work, 99.9% is built up areas in town, lots of sitting in traffic and outside peoples houses waiting for the tardy feckers to get their ar*e in gear !

The 20ppm mile guys are the petrol vehicles, diesels do a bit better.

I get an average 38mpg and 17mph at night in my diesel (mondeo Tdci), day driver only gets 22mpg and 11mph averages !!

However you look at it every hybrid auris driver I've spoken to - half a dozen or so - says they've halved their fuel costs. I trust them more than any published figures.

BTW, even the variation between 15p and 20p a mile is way off in real terms
Different drivers, different vehicles.
Some petrol mondeos spend 20ppm, some diesel octavias spend 15ppm.

There used to be one guy had a petrol mondeo V6 auto and a lead foot - he was spending 25ppm five years ago !
Likewise there's someone else, older guy, only does a 60 mile school run (15 mile each way twice a day) in his diesel octavia, drives like a granny and spends 11ppm.

You cant blame a car if the driver is a leadfooted drag racing nigel mansell wannabee, if they pay for the fuel they need to wake up and smell the coffee

and if they choose to drive a gas guzzler i have no sympathy for them

even my xlwb sprinter van did 33mpg

Monitoring fuel usage is something I've never done, I fill up and that's it job done, I look at the trip in the car and that's as far as I go.

If you don't know your running costs, how do you know your profit/loss?
