which bit - the dutch bloke being a bit mongish or you getting emotional about a cab trade company winning a contract?

the bit in respect of the Dutchman was tongue in cheek - but I wonder why you, having no links to the taxi trade would have any interest?

Sorry, I jumped in with both feet there CC.

Well I do have a link to the taxi trade only it can't be spoken about on this forum. Oh and the rest is just a bit fun for myself especially when Les and Co. come on here spouting their p*sh...

you may think it pish - but others in the cab trade see it as one win for the good guys?

take a rational stance on things my friend, despite how much it may go against your instincts

like everywhere else the Edinburgh cab trade has many ills - but by equal measure far more positives - and for the most part those are they blokes doing the job.

I will take the p*ss out of the cab trade wherever I feel fit - but surely this article is a positive against the sh*tbags?

I think you've lost me. :? This article was Les and Co. trying to big up a victory against CRT on being handed the worst hotel in Edinburgh by Messrs Woodburn and Gibson. They won a pig in a poke. City Cabs have a staff contract that you wouldn't wish on your worst enemy.    The Caley hotel is a fu*ing nightmare to service at peak times and nearly all the quality work goes down the road to ECPH. :-k I am struggling to see a positive in this one cc, especially when you consider that City Cabs handed it on a plater to CRT in the first place and for all the reasons I have stated above. #-o #-o #-o

Please do not misquote me, I said it was sad and I was referring to the issues explained in my post. Never stated sad sad world.

les mcvay wrote:
Missing one important point and that is the Edinburgh Public enjoy one of the best taxi services in the country, partly driven by healthy competition from both within the Public Hire Sector and the Private Hire.

First part is true but you state its partly due to "healthy competition". If that is the case why do individuals constantly berate the opposition companies for their unfair /unsustainable discounts or allegedly underhand dealings in acquiring Airport Contract. Competition is competition, people cant have it both ways you either accept competition or you don't, the methods used if legal are up to individual Companies.

les mcvay wrote:
The good thing is we all have a choice to work within a radio circuit or as a street car. And now for an App company.

True, with some taxis operating in all 3 areas  me myself I am happy just as a street car thank you. =D>

The Edinburgh trade has evolved over the last 25 years to its present high standard of customer service levels.
No more walking out to Craigmillar Park or the Dean Bridge before you see a yellow light and for those of us who choose to sit behind the wheel and drive we can all make a very good living.

Les that really is nonsense and you know it. An example last sat night I was picking my wife and her friend up from the Jam House on Queen Street. I sat outside and waited for over 45 mins (typical women  always late). In that time I was asked/begged to take fares which I had to reject. Examples of fares and distances they had walked are below

1. Offered £25 to go to the Jewel by a man who had walked from Gorgie Road
2. Offered £40 to go to Prestonpans by a couple who had walked from Lothian Road
3. Offered £20 to go to Crewe Toll by a young man who had walked from the Southside

All of these individuals approached me parked in my taxi with my lights off on a street in central Edinburgh telling me they had walked for miles. Not exactly what you are suggesting in your comments above. Also I work EVERY weekend and if I had a pound for every similar story I would be a millionaire.

les mcvay wrote:
The so called politics on this site is a tiny atom of what the whole Edinburgh Trade is about. Forums, unfortunately, generally only attract negativity with people happy to comment with a degree of impunity behind their chosen screen names.

I am not now nor ever have been interested in politics regarding the taxi trade. Also here we go with the old "hiding behind a screen name" bollox.
Les I have been on many many forums over the years. Only one is related to the taxi trade (this one). I do not use my real name on any, it is prudent and also as I do not abuse people nor make derogatory/personal comments on anyone why should I use my name? You choose to and that is your choice, I choose not to. I have had this silly argument with Skull and Jim previously when I have disagreed with their views. BUT if you or anyone cares to look at ANY of my posts you will see that I do not name call, personal abuse nor bring up historical stories about ANYONE. I was brought up to debate properly not abuse someone in a discussion. In all my earlier points in my first post Les I never once was rude, negative nor insulting to any individual or company. I gave a view, and interestingly you never really opinionated on my views, in fact you misquoted my very first line in your initial reply. Says it all really. Have a look at basic internet safety advice on any forums. One of the first rules is be very careful in giving out personal information.

les mcvay wrote:
Say what you like you will travel far and wide before you experience a more professional and reliable taxi service than we have in Edinburgh and this has been achieved through the trades commitment to service.

Are you inferring that I am suggesting anything to he contrary?? I go out 5 nights a week 52 weeks a year for over 25 years and I value my job and role as one of the first points of contact a visitor to our great city and have done so from the first day I got my taxi drivers licence. In the radio companies and on the streets I have acted in the same professional way, but sadly have seen MANY examples of drivers/owners who do not. In my opinion a large number of Radio company cars have totally forgotten the unwritten rules of taxi driver etiquette and courtesy on the road (pulling out in front of approaching cab with light on, undertaking with light off then light on further down road :x etc) So please do not presume to think all is well because if it was we would not be having discussions like this on the forum.

Indeed you have to look no further than this forum to see an indicator of how far we have came in driver standards.

I suspect I know what you are eluding to with this comment but that is up to you, I have no interest in commenting.

I will continue to post on here on issues I have a view on and if some individuals do not like it then so be it. Its called democracy. What would be nice is if rather than being negative about me, try answering the points I make with facts etc rather than little digs and personal comments. Would be nice =D>

The taxi trade is not unique in the fact that opposition companies berate each other, happens in business all over the world. However the way it's going at the moment is not sustainable. You make a great point on competition is competition! In my opinion the taxi trade holds itself back. Now i understand the Articles of Association permit any private hire vehicles being in either company but this is utter madness. Whether as black cab drivers we like it or not, certain sections of the public would prefer a saloon car. Why City or Central don't have the facility for both is ridiculous. For myself when the threat of PH started both companies should have started operating these type of vehicles so we could have controlled the competition better. Hell it could even have been a joint venture.

I would have done option 3 then nipped back. However HSSC i must say Mrs HSSC has bagged herself a good man and i hope she reads this

I enjoy your contribution on here HSSC but don't you think you're taking this to heart too much. I mean we all get called much worse regularly on a sat night.

Artur I appreciate your response and thanks for actually dealing with points I made =D>
Re my Mrs as I said to the fares I quoted and others I fear my good lady more than a 6 foot 6 inch drunk on a Sat night  She might be small but can kill with a look from 500 yards
I honestly don't take things too seriously my friend, if it comes over like that then I apologise. As you say name calling etc on any night is ten times worse but as they say "Sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me".
Take care.......

I'm interested in your opinion of the black cab companies also operating PH vehicles?

No need to apologise you are just passionate and concerned about the taxi trade.
