Taxi driver gives up licence after cautionA TAXI driver has given up his taxi licence from Ceredigion County Council after admitting inappropriate behaviour toward a 14-year-old girl.
The driver, who has not been named, is licensed by Ceredigion council, but the incident took place in Carmarthenshire and saw him accept a police caution and be placed on the sex offenders register in February.
The driver had surrendered his licence while an investigation took place, but after accepting the caution, he gave up his licence.
A council report to the licensing committee said the surrender of the licence had meant there was no need for a hearing to revoke the licence issued by the council.
It says: “A multi-agency child protection strategy meeting was held regarding a licensed male taxi driver and inappropriate behaviour towards a 14-year-old teenage female.
“The offence was committed in the Carmarthenshire area, but the driver was licensed with this authority.
“The driver upon being challenged by licensing officers surrendered his licence for the duration of the investigation initially.
“On 27 February, he received a formal police adult caution for an offence under Section 9 of the Sexual Offences Act 2003.
“This placed him on the sex offenders register. The driver has subsequently formally surrendered his dual drivers licence.
“The transport section of the council and his employer have been made aware of the action taken.
“This course of action prevented a revocation hearing and ensures that the driver does not come into contact with children and vulnerably persons from a licensing perspective.”
