Minicab driver caught defecating by side of road by shocked motorist in Ancoats

After being caught the driver attempted to make amends by shaking the witness's hand, before urinating against a wall

A horrified driver called 999 after spotting a minicab driver defecating at the side of a road in Ancoats.

After being caught and asked what he was doing by the shocked onlooker, the minicab driver then attempted to make amends by shaking the witnesses’ hand, before then urinating against a wall.

Officers were alerted to the indiscreet ‘drop off’ at around 5.30pm on Thursday, and have now passed the information they received to the council’s licensing authorities, who will decide whether to take further action against the driver.

Inspector Phil Spurgeon, from Greater Manchester Police’s city centre team, said: “After the 999 caller stopped to ask what the minicab driver was doing, he held out his hand to shake hands with the witness. Needless to say, the offer was declined for obvious reasons.”

The incident comes just weeks after another taxi driver was snapped by furious residents on Parksway, Blackley, squatting alongside his car with his trousers and underpants around his ankles.

People living on the street claimed it was the latest in an series of incidents over several months in which minicab drivers were parking at the end of their street and using it as an ‘outdoor toilet’.

The driver told licensing chiefs he had assumed the position to inspect a wound after ‘cutting himself shaving’. A panel decided not to revoke the driver’s private hire licence due to a lack of evidence he had relieved himself.

An angry confrontation between a resident and a different driver who was spotted unbuttoning his trousers on the street on February 12 was reported to Greater Manchester Police but no-one was arrested regarding the incident.

Earlier this month CCTV caught another driver urinating in the street on Beverley Street in Blackley.

Police say that cabbies could end up in court if they relieve themselves in a public place, rather than use toilets in a supermarket or their offices.

Aren't we always being told that 999 is for life or death situations? Surely he could have used a more appropriate number such as number 2!

999 is indeed for life and death situations.
