Uber aims to revolutionise taxi services in Lincoln

A revolutionary mobile app-based transportation network has plans to set up in Lincoln.

American company Uber, that connects riders to drivers through their mobile phone already has bases in London and Manchester.

The company has also submitted a licensing application to Bristol City Council to operate in the city.

And it has now confirmed that it plans to add Lincoln to its list.

The app user pays for the fare by using an online account that has already been set up and the driver uses GPS to locate exactly where the pick-up is.

A spokesman for Uber said: "Uber's ambition is to be in every major city in the UK, and Lincoln is certainly one of these.

"So we certainly have the ambition to be there one day."

The spokesman added that they did not have a set date or timeline for Lincoln, however, according to the Leicester Mercury it has no plans to build one in nearby city Leicester.

Uber, which was founded in San Francisco in 2009, differs from traditional taxi firms with passengers using their smartphone to agree a fare before their journey.

The company has caused controversy with allegations that drivers are unregulated and increase the agreed fare.

It has also been banned in several countries, including India where there was an allegation of rape against an Uber driver.

We only got colour tv in 2012, mobile phone reception is patchy in places.

Coincidentally, I was going to post on here a question as to how small a city would Uber bother with.

I would say that's amongst the reasons Lincolns been targeted - and of course a council that doesn't vet drivers - well foreign drivers

For the cost of an operator's licence £250? and a mailbox address, they have no other overheads, the App's servers, are in Holland and London, which is where the jobs are dispatched from, they will soon be in every licensing authority in the country, until one has the Bo**ox to actually enforce the legislation.

Don't hold your breath
