North Shields cabbie loses home and taxi licence after cannabis farm found

Northumbria Police sniff out 60 cannabis plants being grown in property on Trevor Terrace in North Shields

A cabbie has lost his home and his taxi licence after cannabis plants were found at his property

Police seized 60 plant seedlings from the home, in North Shields after residents sniffed out the makeshift drugs farm.

PC Dianne Hogg was alerted to a strong smell of cannabis coming from a home, on Trevor Terrace, by neighbours. She identified the specific property and officers contacted the private landlord to gain access

Once inside officers found 60 cannabis plant seedlings, and a 35-year-old man was arrested.

He later received a simple caution after admitting dishonestly using and abstracting electricity. Following this he was evicted from his home by his landlord and North Tyneside Council revoked his taxi licence for 12 months and removed his vehicle.

Northumbria Police’s North Shields Neighbourhood Inspector Mark Storey said: “We take all reports of the illegal production and supply of drugs in the area very seriously and we want those who are involved in this activity to be aware that we will take action against you.

“We want to make it clear that police will work with a range of partner agencies to make sure that all appropriate available sanctions against offenders are put in place.

“We’re determined to make our communities safer and would continue to appeal for the public’s help by giving us any information on suspected drugs activity where they live.”

Colin Boxshall, manager of North Tyneside Council’s Safer Estates team, said: “North Tyneside Council is on the side of our law-abiding tenants and residents.

“We take all complaints and information very seriously and work with our partners to investigate and ensure that those who step outside the law are subject to the full power of the law and will face the likelihood that they will lose their home too.”

Why do they think they can get away with growing weed? They've only got to let the Helicopter go round the town and every house that's got a grow going will light up like Fasnet lighthouse.
