Taxi driver and passer-by assaulted in road rage incident in Sheepridge

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident in Bradley Boulevard on Thursday afternoon

A taxi driver who double parked to help an elderly passenger to her door was racially abused and punched in the face by another motorist.

And the thug then turned his attention to anther man who tried to help the cabbie in a shocking road-rage attack in Huddersfield.

The Good Samaritan shouted at the thug to stop but was himself attacked as he tried to film what was happening on his mobile phone.

The 30-year-old man was himself then punched and kicked when he fell to the floor and had his mobile phone grabbed off him.

He got up and ran to the motorist’s car and pleaded with him through the driver’s window to hand his phone back.

But the motorist refused and the victim hung on to his car door but fell to the ground when the car drove off at speed.

Detectives said there was “an unacceptable level of violence” and have urged witnesses to come forward.

The cabbie’s ordeal happened in Bradley Boulevard yesterday, as he pulled up to drop off an elderly passenger.

The taxi-driver, a man in 50s, and the passer-by both suffered bruising to their faces.

Det Insp Mark Truelove, of Huddersfield CID, said: “This was clearly a nasty attack and unacceptable level of violence on innocent members of the public.

“The taxi driver had momentarily double parked to assist an elderly woman to her front door. A motorist parked behind the taxi and got out and started racially abusing the taxi driver.

“The taxi driver has then gone to get back in his taxi but has been punched twice in the face.

“A passer-by has shouted at the man to stop and begun filming the incident on his phone.

“It is then that the suspect moves to confront this man and punches him to the floor.”

Det Insp Truelove added: “We are appealing for anyone who may have seen this incident to contact us.

“The suspect is described as a black male, 6ft, in his 30s with short black hair and muscular build.

“He was wearing a black casual jacket and jeans.”

Anyone with information should contact Huddersfield CID on 101.

I wonder if anyone considered taking the registration number of the vehicle?

Just a thought.
