Taxi drivers get code of conduct

Taxi drivers are set to get a new code of conduct as part of their licence following approval by Boston Borough Council.

The new code was discussed at a meeting of the Regulatory and Appeals Committee on Tuesday, June 9.

Councillors were told the code was drawn up following the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Exploitation in Rotherham 1997-2003.

Drivers applying for new licences and those renewing old ones will be required to sign the code and those currently holding a licence will be asked to voluntarily sign it until they need a new one.

Delivering the report, council officer Fiona White said the code was no reflection on Boston’s drivers’ integrity, adding there was no evidence drivers in the town were implicated in similar exploitation to that in Rotherham.

She said: “This is just another layer of safeguarding because of the concerns over child exploitation.”

Councillors voted unanimously in favour of the new rules, with some calling them ‘common sense’.

"Are we going grooming tonight ?" - "Nah sorry, I cant, I've signed a code of conduct. Ask Iquuaad I dont think hes signed it yet" !!

was thinking much the same myself - but all councils are seemingly catching onto the Rotherham thing now - think of the money they'll make in sitting licensed drivers down and telling them about the vulnerable - as opposed to actually going out onto the streets and doing what they're paid to do.

Many are all in a mass panic.

They thought because they deemed them 'fit and proper' once, that applies for life.

Sadly in many many incidences it doesn't.

Rotherham is the tip of the iceberg, in my view.
