Why not get a Satnav - with a phone facility?

Or perhaps a Satnav that links to the phone with Bluetooth?

Get the RNS 510 for your Skoda it swaps straight in, all you would require is a different facia, available from Skoda for around £20, the maps can be updated for free, they cover the whole of the UK and Europe, then get a Bluetooth module, then you can use voice activation, and use it for your phone

Why would he want to lump £300 on a system?

It makes the interior look tidy, its a good talking point and it makes a Wanabe look half professional

Here Maps is a free app available on iphone, android and windows phone. It used to be called Nokia Maps. You install the app and then download the regional maps you want. In the settings it has an option to work offline while navigating.

except then the gps uses data for map info, which costs and fails when there no connection

I believe most phones now will have GPS capability. You need at stand alone offline app which doesn't rely upon data to operate in the way Google Maps, for example, does.

I have downloaded 'Maps Me' from the PlayStore which stores the maps on the phone. I don't know if it is available on Apple or Windows. You download each country as you need it. England Scotland and Wales are separate countries. It has some excellent reviews and scores in excess of 4 stars. The negative reviews appear to be from those parts of the world that are not well covered by the latest technology. There should be few problems for our purposes.

Although I haven't yet had to use it in anger, playing with it in the local area that I know has found it up to the job. I will try it out on a run to Reading this weekend but it gets a real workout in Spain in October!

I'm running it on a Samsung Galaxy S5 and will also give it a try on my wife's HTC and our Samsung Galaxy Tab 4.

Try map factor its great..

Just to report:

Maps for Me was brilliant in over 800kms of motoring in Spain. It found some out of the way places around Javea and a hotel in a pedestrianised area of Benidorm. Highly recommended as a stand alone app.
