‘DfT have today indicated, in response to enquiries from NALEO and other Trades’ Groups members, that they are considering whether Best Practice Guidance should be updated to reflect the changes brought about by the “Taxi and Private Hire” clauses of the Deregulation Act 2015. DfT also state that other matters in the guidance may need revision and that interested parties will be consulted prior to any new guidance being issued.’

Not at the moment, but more than likely end up with a watered down version, with a few of the parliaments rules thrown in

It means that any private hire operator will be able to sub contract work to any other private hire operator, not just one from the same licensing district. Exactly the same as Hackney drivers can already do.

Yes, and no. #-o

I think the taxi bits include Scotland as they are not listed in the English only, or English and Welsh only, sections.

http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/201 ... ts/enacted

The end sections show the exempted bits, but I'm pretty certain it's a UK act.

Taxis and PHC are a devolved matter and covered by The CGSA 1982. The dereg bill makes much mention of the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1976, which AFAIK doesn't apply here.

Could the moderators please put this thread and any others pertaining to English only Laws into an English section?
It would save all the confusion.

Confusion befuddles the brain.

And we fellas need that as little as possible. ;)

Clearly you are already confused. The deregulation act is not an English only act. #-o

Grandad, are you saying that Bloodnock and the late Gusmac are wrong?

Are Taxi and PH Regulation not devolved matters?

Have all the consultations, select committee meetings, proposed amendments to from and by Holyrood been a waste of time?

Unless any forumites able to enlighten us as to what effect the cab act will have in Scotland?

Did a bit of searching myself and found these.

According to this guy.

HEAD OF TAXI AND PSV REGULATION BRANCH
BUSES AND TAXIS DIVISION
DEPARTMENT FOR TRANSPORT
2/12 GREAT MINSTER HOUSE
33 HORSEFERRY ROAD
LONDON
SW1P 4DR
DIVISIONAL ENQUIRIES: 020 7944 2278

Web Site: http://www.dft.gov.uk

14 March 2014

TAXI AND PRIVATE HIRE MEASURES: DEREGULATION BILL

The purpose of this letter is to draw your attention to several changes to taxi and private hire vehicle (PHV) legislation which are being proposed by the Government. The changes affect the legislation which applies in England outside London and Wales.

And from

Law Commission Press Release May 2014

this guy

Nicholas Paines QC, the Law Commissioner leading on the project, says:

“The taxi and private hire trades are of enormous value to England and Wales. They provide a living for thousands of operators and drivers, and many more thousands of people depend on them to go about their daily lives.

and a footnote
Notes for editors

The Law Commission is a non-political independent body, set up by Parliament in 1965 to keep all the law of England and Wales under review, and to recommend reform where it is needed.

Perhaps there is no need for a Scottish section as "TDO uk cab trade debate and advice" is a very worthwhile and helpful effort that does much to promote and assist the trade throughout the UK

It would be helpful and ensure only the best advice is offered to put all the English only stuff in an English Section.
