If I was going to Dover and Operation stack was in force (as it is) what would be the diversion route?

You would use the A2, which turns into the M2, which then turns back into the A2 again.

Operation Stack is on the M20 (which runs parallel).

Op Stack is a favourite topic of conversation in my area at the moment as I live about 2 miles from the M20 at junction 10. Avoid the whole area like the plague! If you really have to go abroad the M20 this morning is shut from 8 Leeds Castle (Kent) to j 13, the end of the M20 and London-bound 9 to 8 to stack lorries in the "wrong" direction. Waiting time for lorries is about 18 hours!
Going by car I'd suggest going across country; avoid Maidstone (road works), M2 (doubly busy), try the A20 from Wrotham, skirt round Maidstone, then towards Headcorn, Tenterden, Appledore, then the A259 coast road towards Folkestone then the old A20 to Dover. The countryside is pretty.

There's no easy way Folkestone-Dover unless you know the country roads. Which I do.   But you still join the jam in Dover. If you're going tunnel, follow above to Tenterden, then Woodchurch, Ham Street, Ruckinge, Bilsington, Lympne, Hythe, A259, then at Hythe chuck a left up to Sandling where you can join the last bit of the A20 and go in the back end of Eurotunnel. 8)

Was ther this much trouble with illegals trying to get across before the tunnel was built? Did they have people trying to get on the ferries in the same way?

They must be coming here to thank our politicians for allowing them to leave their own country to seek a better life.

Africa, the Med and then through France to dover..that's probably the quickest route.

If we cant control 4 holes in the ground we may as well flood the tunnel
