City Cabs (Edinburgh) Ltd are introducing a Safety Camera system to their vehicles.
It is a 2 to 4 camera system with a part time audio function that can be enacted in the case of an emergency. It is being introduced on a voluntary basis with each licence holder having the choice to have it fitted or not.
The initial uptake has been pretty positive and City Cabs are sure that when others see the benefits it brings to our place of work, through the introduction of security and peace of mind for the driver, the uptake will grow.
The system will be self financing as many insurance companies are backing this initiative through offering substantial discounts on their premium levels as they too recognise the importance of having this level of impartiality to protect, not only the driver, but against the ever rising financial burden of spurious claims that they have to deal with.

Indeed, which makes it even more surprising that the local GMB loons down here do nothing but bellyache about CCTV.

As I said, utter loons.
