It doesn't follow in Lewes.

A few of the firms have up to 5 cars, but the rest of the cabs are all owner driver.

Well I guess that's one authority doesn't fit into T's assumption. Carlisle is another considering we have already had that divulgence from the local Taxi association.

If we started from scratch and gave everyone 1 plate within a year most of the plates would be in the hands of a few.

You have 238 unrestricted authorities to choose from to prove your theory right, So which of these 238 authorities fit your assumption? You have the floor.

I was making a point about business in general, are you suggesting that in all those areas its one man one plate, that everyone operates on an individual basis, no-one has joined a radio circuit. By your rationel Mr. Cohen should be stripped of his supermarket chain and go back to a market stall.

Now you have the floor, please sweep up and close the door on your way out. Then for once you will have been of some use.

Is the debate getting a little tight for you and do you have a problem finding your way out of the hole you dug for yourself? You are grand at making "sweeping statements" but you appear to be a brush without its bristles, perhaps we can find you an empty vessel or two to play with until you grow back your bristles?

In the meantime is there any chance of you resolving the statement you made regarding plates? Or can we infer from your silence on the matter that you were just clearing the hot air remnants from your back passage?

Thats my point each area will find its own level, some will be bosses, some workers, some content with one plate others will have ambitions to get bigger. That is enterprise and for that to flourish you need stability and a reasonable chance of return on investment. People will not invest in new vehicles, new technology etc if plates are handed out to anyone capable of dragging their lazy ass through the town hall doors.

Consider this, at the moment pubs shut at 23:30, but they want longer opening hours which the new laws has now give them.
Longer hours more sales = more profit.
But Mr. Drinker spends all his money by 23:30, he may slow down to match the longer hours but he has no more money to spend. So the pubs get the same money but have to pay more staff hours.
Longer Hours = Higher costs = LESS PROFIT.
More taxis on the road = fewer fares per taxi = fare increase to maintain profit.
Is there money out there the trade is not getting, maybe some on Sat. nights, but is that enough, there is a limit to how many jobs you can do per shift. If the money supply does not increase then profits suffer. Supply and demand needs to be managed, controlled, regulated.

Bit confused here T, if I'm so insignificant and don't register on your, or for that matter anyone else's, radar, how on earth could I destroy the trade. :?

Like a termite or woodworm, nothing in itself but dangerous in numbers and left unchecked, sorry to puncture your enormous ego but you will never be as clever or significant as you think you are.

Exactly how are these extra cabs going to be driven? Is there a secret supply of licensed drivers out there? :?

Or will those extra cabs be driven by existing jockies? And if so how will that lead to less money being taken by anyone other than lazy non-working owners?
