I think they should make a train up of bicycle powered coaches offer the commuters a 10% discount for pedaling ! Or get the Battery powered emu out of retirement come to think of it didn't network rail spend a ton of money converting an emu to dual battery electric a year or two ago that would be ok as the first mile or two is electrified to charge the batteries
The steam preservations lines are rammed every weekend, every one has been extended and/or re-opened, the WHR from Porthmadog to Caernarfon for 1, the Whitby to Pickering Yorkshire moors, the Llangollen line is now terminating at Corwen, next time a steam excursion comes through your local station take a look, the platforms are jam packed, we have a deep seated love for the old coal burners..
Took this just outside Whitby, have also been on the Somerset line too this year
