Taxi driver tried to force man out of village by smashing 11 windows at his house A MAN who attempted to force another man out of a village by smashing the windows in his house was ordered to carry out 150 hours unpaid work.
Andrew Booker, 51, went to the house in Sutton-in-Craven, near Keighley, armed with a hammer because he suspected the occupant of an historic crime, Skipton Magistrates were told.
Booker, along with two others, smashed 11 windows and damaged two doors on November 5, causing damage estimated at £2,182.
The occupant, who was in the house at the time with his wife and child, told police he believed his house was 'under attack' and described seeing a man at the back door with a baseball bat.
Police traced Booker through some blood left at the scene and he was interviewed earlier this year. He admitted causing damage, but not to breaking all of the windows.
Booker, who in court admitted criminal damage, was remorseful and accepted what he had done had not been helpful. He had acted out of anger and because he had wanted the other man out of the village, but had not taken into account the impact on the man's wife and child, the court was told in a pre-sentence report.
A self employed taxi-driver, who was currently not working, he was classed as low risk of re-offending.
Booker, of Hainworth Wood Road, Keighley, was also ordered to pay costs of £85 and a £60 surcharge. Magistrates said they were not making any order for compensation as no documentary evidence had been forwarded and because of Booker's financial circumstances.
The court heard the occupant of the house had since moved away.
