Oh yes. Image

oh! no, methinks...
"Conversations between members of the public should not be recorded on CCTV. (There are some specific exceptions to this, such as a panic button in a taxi cab or the charging area of a police custody suite)"
"Many CCTV systems now come with audio recording facilities. Audio recording is particularly privacy intrusive and in the vast majority of cases where CCTV is being used on domestic properties it should be disabled"

If the data controller is satisfied that audio recordings are justified, it's 100% legal.

As for discussions by punters, who gives a monkeys? Why would a data controller download footage/audio without good reason? Why would they break data protection laws?

There are too many scaremongers who know little about CCTV regs.

I know three data controllers who control best part of 1,000 vehicles, all data is encrypted, and over the last 5 years they have never been asked to download tittle tattle.

Between 20 and 25,000,000 hours of footage, not one second of tittle tattle.
