A devestating critique, and the first of its kind disseminated to a wide audience at the local level, methinks.

Well done to all those involved =D>

Well done, if nothing else the Edinburgh lads have pointed out to anyone connected to this trade how flawed and utterly pointless SUD surveys are.

SUD surveys are nearly always geared to conclude what the council concerned wants. I don't think I have ever read a comment or article from a council criticizing a survey. Classic case of 'he who pays the surveyor fixes the outcome'. [-X

If anyone wanted any proof, other than the iffy efforts from Jacobs, than go and ask Trafford Council about their 2001 SUD survey. Ask them for proof that the comments from the various WAV organizations were actually the truth.

I bet you they can't, because they were all made up.

what you mean is the "wannaplates" have been sounding off about the survey because it didn't suit them.

Everyone else seems quiet happy with the outcome

I take it everyone else is includes customers. :-k

If a survey's numbers don't add up, then that's a cause for concern.

If a survey says it has asked people, and lies about their replies, then that's a cause for concern.

I don't think any right thinking person would disagree with you, Sussex - but identifying the problem is a bit like " stating the bleedin' obvious " !!

What I would like to see, - and I suspect a few others also feel the same way - is a solution to what can be done regarding this matter.

We have all known for some time now what Jacobs would conclude and the flaws in their report - so have any of the saviours of the trade got any ideas as to where we go from here ?

I don't pretend to have any ideas in this regard, or I would be telling you all about it and would be off making sure it happened.

Has anyone any ideas, or is it just more of how crap Jacobs is again and again. Saying it over and over does not seem to change anything.

As I said earlier, what they've done in Edinburgh is probably the first of its kind, so to that extent it's a step forward.

We all know how clueless and stuborn politicians can be, and to that extent if there's not a well of public opinion against a particular issue then it's difficult to get change.

And such an impetus usually includes some help from the media, but if it seems that the press in Edinburgh supports restricted numbers (as evidenced by the recent editorial) then clearly that's a big impediment to spreading the message.

The only thing to do is to keep banging on about it and try to get the message across to as many movers and shakers as possible.

Mighty oaks out of little acorns grow :D

The Edinburgh survey was flawed . But the basic aim, of the survey was to see if there was any , unmet demand . Or latent (hidden) demand . Like everthing , it depends on your point of veiw . Would those people who used P H or buses used Taxi s , if one was available . I am not sure that there is any, inprovement in the situation . Edinburgh could just as well have been Liverpool right down . to the increase in private hire , airport passenger numbers . Your Jacobs crackers briantly sums up the problems with the hackney trade . and solutions to them .But to make a council change its mined, i am sorry to say i dont think so . Brown enverlopes is your best bet. streetcar

When people dismiss something as 'flawed', 'out of context' etc, but fail to explain why, it usually just means that they disagree with it, not that it's actually wrong in any way. :-|

CEC are denying licence applications on the bases of the Jacobs Report but the Councillor Rev Dr Chris Wigglesworth Labour went on the record 07/10/05 stating that the Jacobs Report is fundamentally flawed.
:D

CEC have set up a task force to look at the taxi situation in Edinburgh. :?

Meanwhile the Airport are getting ready to challenge CEC on denial of licence plates. :D

surveys give the answers that the council want.
the council set the criteria for surveys and if a council wants loads of plates issued then 10 times out of 10 loads are issued.
ditto if they want no plates.
its bent and we all know it.
