Strangely, when this was mentioned on the news the other day I commented to my wife that it was one of the first news things that I can remember along with Winston Churchill's funeral.

Odd how 2 stories more or less the same get different coverage

Aberfan..... hardly a mention Hillsborough ..... press/TV all the time

Ben Needham....hardly a mention Madeline Mccann ..... day and night press

If South Yorkshire Police hadnt lied there asses off and come clean about their failings much sooner it wouldn't have been been in the news for decades.

As to the difference between the treatment of the Ben Needham disappearance and Madeleine Mcann the Needham family weren't shameless self publicist's.

First news item I remember was that of Scotland qualifying for West Germany World Cup of 74 and the fact we where going to play a team called Ziare, I was fascinated and asked my dad all about them, he told me they where from Africa, he said though England have not qualified, I replied do they come from Africa too

True story and I was 8 at the time
