Three convicted taxi drivers sweat on whether they can keep their licences.Three taxi-drivers, who are not allowed by the terms of their licence to pick up passengers from the street or a rank, will find out tomorrow whether they will keep their licences.
The three were all convicted and fined last month after being found guilty of illegally plying for hire during the 2016 Cheltenham Gold Cup Race Week.
Duncan Holder of Solway Road was ordered to pay £1550 in fines and costs, Ephrain Chimuka of Reservoir Road in Gloucester had to pay £848 and Aziz Ur Rehman from Pilgrove Way in Cheltenham had to pay £820 when they were convicted of the offences at Cheltenham Magistrates' Court last month.
Now councillors on Cheltenham Borough Council's licensing committee will decide whether the three can continue to operate in the town as private hire drivers.
The three drivers will be able to attend in person and make representations to the committee.
The meeting begins at 6pm at the Pittville Room of the council's Municipal Offices in the Promenade.
Private Hire Vehicle drivers should only pick up passengers who phone to book them – they are not allowed to pick up a passenger who hails them on the street or to wait at a taxi rank.
