Council suspends taxi driver after woman with multiple sclerosis says she was refused fareCarmarthenshire council decided to suspend a taxi driver
A taxi driver has been suspended by a council after refusing a fare for a woman with multiple scleroris, it has been reported.
Barbara Stensland, 43, from Cardiff, was in Carmarthen in August for a meeting of the MS Society.
But, the BBC reported, when she tried to get a taxi from the station to the meeting she said the driver, David Maynard, refused to take her.
Mr Maynard contested the allegation and said it was a "total fabrication".
But a meeting of Carmarthenshire's licensing committee decided to suspend Mr Maynard's licence for seven days.
The BBC reported that the council had considered suspending his licence for longer, but Ms Stensland said she did not want Mr Maynard to suffer hardship.
Ms Stensland told BBC Wales: "I'm not a vindictive person.
"All I wanted was an apology. I still haven't received an apology, but I wouldn't go back on saying I wanted as low a sanction as possible."
