Just because you are issued a different license number does not mean there is not a value attached to that license when transferring to another proprietor.

you can't transfer it you have to hand it in to the council and they have to apply to the council for another plate

You can transfer a vehicle with a plate around here. We have a company here who survives by buying plated vehicles from other businesses. He bought one from me that had six months plate left before it is to old to be used. That plate runs out next month and he is asking me if I have another to sell.

with no restrictions it doesn't matter a plate is guaranteed they used to buy and sell round here but our council is getting very jittery about plates and badges getting forged

The 1847 act would appear to be required reading for some on here,

And licensing officers in their area too.

You can sell a licences vehicle to whoever you like.

You do not need approval from your council.

Just tell them, (TELL THEM!) within fourteen days of doing the dirty deed.

Ours do ask that we inform them as soon as negotiations begin.

They simply ask us to let them know. They don't apply a sanction. It is a simple request so there is little point in not doing so unless someone wants to be awkward.
