isn't it about time we adopted french style RTC traffic management

today stuck for one and a half hours on A1 getting past the scene of a 4 car shunt with 1 lane closed

police and highways agency staff all standing around supervising the recovery vehicle instead of getting heavy friday traffic moving past the scene it was slowing down their vehicles reaching the scene as well when a bit of arm waving to get the traffic to accelerate past the scene might have kept the traffic behind moving and got their ambulances etc to the scene much quicker !!!!!

Been up to Birmingham for a couple of days, and on the way up I couldn't believe how many numpty truck drivers try and overtake trucks who are all limited to the same f***ing speed. ](*,)

As for an anti gripe, amazed how little traffic there was in the middle of Birmingham. :-?

Had no problem getting into City Centre, had no problem driving through, had no problem driving out.

I think you lot up there think two tractors and a moped is gridlocked traffic.

They are not though,

Some don't go much beyond 54 some you can get up to 56.5. The supermarkets are often limited to 53, plus load differences and hills??, crack on though  20 yrs + a trucker here

Roadworks to the South
Road closed to North
Gridlocked traffic to the east
gridlocked traffic to the west
crawling round in circles going nowhere at best

at 1 point it took me 40 minutes to do a half mile job

what an abysmal Friday and the wardens never went near the rank till just now so it's been full of parked cars all day not that we've had much chance to use it

Drivers that won't listen !!!!!!

I've got a driver that took on a delivery round for hermes to boost his takings but he's the sort that never spends a penny on his car till it breaks down. Now the clutch is going and he's facing a £500 bill but of course he has no money because his wife spends it as fast as he can earn it. His idea of a solution quit the taxiing and go full time with Hermes   because it's the taxi work not the parcels work thats knackering his car  ](*,)

Now with us we have flexibility so he can take his holidays or time off if one of his kids is ill etc. and several drivers have tried to tell him that Hermes aren't that accomodating but he thinks that the sun shines out their rear end and if he quits with us there's an unlimited amount of work available with them and they will look after him well !!!! and let him take unlimited holidays time off when he needs it etc.

There's some lads round here who do that and have done the same thing and left Taxi Driving, they're better off delivering parcels, they start at 8am and are finished for 12-1pm time the latest. If you can get someone to cover your round while you are on holiday there's no issue with Hermes. Two of the lads are on about opening their own depot after being contacted by Hermes so they can cover more of the area.

They arent

Tescos are 50mph, most are 56mph but different loads, wind drag (off high or low trailers) and different power outputs from engines mean in reality they all have a different speed given any length of road... down a steady incline 1 might have 10mph spare to pass a slow one then as the road rises a different one has an advantage

You wouldnt want thier job with restricted driver hours and delivery windows, ive see trailers of goods (including meat and fish) turned away cos they were late
