Have a look at the M.O.T. fee table ,it clearly states that a TAXI has to have an M.O.T. test when it is 1 year old, private hire vehicle when it is 3 years old.

Pointless having a look at something that we don't need.

Ours have never asked for an MOT until it is 3 years old. We do have to have the Council inspection from 1st registration.

Ours never asks for a MOT either.

But for some people a Mars Bar is the equivalent of a Snickers.

But they are not the same.

why bother with a compliance-cum-MOT which isnt an MOT, surely the DVLA database has to have it as a pass or every ANPR camera will ping you up

Sometimes a new copper does make himself look a tad silly, but as long as it's insured I'm not sure it pops up on the ANPR, or officers are trained to note the big f*** off taxi roof sign on top.

So a taxi sign makes it road legal even if the ANPR pings up no test?

Our LA includes the cost of the MOT in it's Licensing cost and if the Vehicles going to get a Taxi test based on a slightly more thorough MOT type test then I may as well take the MOT test as I have already paid for it when I applied for a taxi License.

our mot is £5

i asked the tester... you do the 2 at the same time... can a car pass 1 and fail the other?....

"erm, yes, we have to check the kiddy locks on the taxi test"

What he DIDNT check were:-

Sign compliance
Fire extinguisher
Meter accuracy
Rooflight operation
and for 1 car round town

full set of wheel nuts

then again, our LA/LO oblige anyone wanting to veer around the regs, like the guy with the Audi with aluminium doors wanting to use magnetic signs (when the regs clearly state "signs must be permanently attached to rear doors level with handles" so hes got the magnetics on his rear quarter panels

another one did it and STUCK his signs on the 1/4 panels...........

Cars come into town and onto the rank THEN attach rooflights and signs..

If they can have the rooflight cable rolled/tied up (obviously not connected) why should any of us comply?
