Equal or better tech than the Uber tech is available to all bases, it's those that provide the better service, the better clearer pricing, the better knowledge of the town or city, the safest journey's that will prevail, in Edinburgh the Black cab owner/operators are still investing in new vehicles, we are United through the co-operative model, we are surviving, we can match any Disruptor company, we are winning the fight, age doesn't come in to it, All about Knowledge Reliability Service Pricing Security and service, we in the Edinburgh black cab trade tick all the boxes, FACT :D

What absolute pish! The only thing you are united in is two committees running both cooperatives into the ground. Your market share is dwindling as Uber grows and adapts to its environment and that's something the taxi trade has never done. Both companies should have merged at least 5 years ago and circled the wagons to buy time against the Uber onslaught but they didn't even have the brains to do that and now you are being overrun. I doubt City or CRT has more than a couple of years before they go under.

There will come a tipping point Dougie and you can take that to the bank. :-|

"There are now around 1800 private hire vehicles compared to just over 1300 taxis – and one drivers’ representative predicted the number could reach 2000 by the end of the year."

"2000 by the end of the year" and you think you are winning the fight. ](*,) ](*,) ](*,) ](*,) WTF don't you get about depreciating plate and radio position "values"? ](*,) ](*,) ](*,) ](*,)

Seen figure of 20,000+ quoted for London, but never any specific figure for the cities.

I've seen double that number quoted by a number of sources.

Thanks Sussex, yes that piece in the Sunday Times the other week said 40,000 Uber drivers in London.

But no one on this thread willing to suggest figures for elsewhere by the looks of it.

Came across this interesting map:

Not sure exactly what it says. Think the assumption is that the TfL licensed drivers in Sheffield (say) are Uber drivers, which might be a fair assumption. On the other hand, those in Brighton could actually be working in London and could be working for anyone. And I suppose those in the likes of Leeds are no doubt working there rather than in London, but not necessarily for Uber #-o

If anyone can't see the whole graphic then click on it and the full version should appear. Better still, right click on it and 'save picture' to hard drive, and then open it from there.

Informed by a reliable source person turned up to a garage asking for car to be M.O.T.d to enable him to license vehicle through TFL. Mechanic asked why vehicle was getting tested 280 mile away from licensing authority and was told every thing is done by post(going to work for uber)

I think people will be guessing.

However once London set their PH operator fees to take into account the number of vehicles working with that operator, we should all get a better idea.

I doubt there are 157 TfL licensed PH drivers working on the Uber app in Brighton, but that is an interesting graphic.
