I heard a piece on the radio this morning that hinted a sharp rise in the price of crude oil following the scrapping of the Iranian nuclear deal. The pound/dollar rate is also working against us at the moment.

That has something to do with the price of oil?

It could have an effect on output which, in turn, will affect price. Iran is a major oil producer.

Another factor to emerge today is the result of Iraqi elections. A very powerful individual is now in opposition and could change the political complexion of that country, once again. Another major player in crude oil production.

As oil is priced in dollars, every weakening of sterling against the dollar will lead to higher prices at the pumps for us, as well as price hikes from shortages engendered by the aforementioned political influences.

dont forget

UK refineries were built before the surge in diesel car buying by the general public so in fact, we only produce 48 weeks worth of diesel here in the UK every year, so we have to import refined diesel AND crude to refine ourselves...

hopefully the current "hate the diesel" campaigns will see diesel cars sold less, get cheaper and produce a glut of diesel at the pumps...

maybe
