My Hackney carriage taxi is insurance for hire and reward and personal use. Can i tow a carvan. I have been told you are not aloud to tow anything in a Hackney carriage is this true. I do know private hires can tow trailers. My wifes car couldn't pull my socks off so i can't use that for holidays

I am led to believe that if you attach anything to a TAXI(hackney carriage) to tow it must be tested along with the TAXI as it then becomes part of the TAXI,was informed by my insurance provider years ago that the only thing I could tow was a broken down TAXI(hackney carriage) as it was already a licensed TAXI.

You need to get a plate from your council to put on the back. There should not be much of a problem.

In your licensing conditions does it specifically say you can’t tow a caravan, or tow any vehicle?

If it doesn’t then you can.

Will ask insurance company. If they say its ok and im off duty and its not for reward. Cant see how the council can tell me how i can use my cab when im not working or plying for hire. Might have to remove plate

Now you are just trying to get yourself in trouble. Once the vehicle is licensed it is always licensed until such time as the license expires or is revoked. You can't choose when it is licensed. Do not take the plate off or you will be using a licensed vehicle without displaying a plate. it is always best to work with your licensing team rather than against them. You should have little problem in getting a plate for your caravan.

To be honest its not something i would do without clearing with licencing first
It was more of a question really. I wouldn't put my license in jeopardy. Just thought someone on the forum might have the same experience with tow a carvan with a Hackney

Ask licensing where it says you can’t.
