A taxi driver was savagely attacked by thugs who "claimed to have a knife" in a terrifying early hours ordeal.

Sebastian Ziomkowski, 29, who drives for Royal Cars, has been left unable to work due to injuries he sustained when he thought he was dropping two passengers off in Marske for a routine job.

But alarm bells started ringing when they said they didn't have any money, but did have a knife, recruitment manager at the taxi firm, Shaun Castle said.

Sebastian was then set upon by the pair when they arrived at the destination on Delamere Drive, in Marske.

Mr Castle said: "When Sebastian exited the vehicle he has been savagely attacked by the two gentlemen to the point where a lady in the street screamed for them to stop and rang the police.

"Sebastian has not worked since due to his injuries and the nature of the assault.

"His livelihood is driving the taxi and he has not been able to do so because of this attack."

The assault is said to have unfolded around 4.25am on Remembrance Sunday, November 11.

Cleveland Police has confirmed it received a report from a 29 year old taxi driver that he had been assaulted after dropping a fare off at Delamere Drive in Marske at around 5.15am on Sunday 11 November.

"The man was taken to James Cook University Hospital where it was confirmed he had sustained a broken nose during the incident.

"Inquiries to trace the two men are on-going."

The first is described as white, of slim build, 5’7” tall, with blonde hair and a chubby oval face.

He was wearing a red puffa type jacket with a white stripe on it.

The second man is also described as white.

He is of medium build 5’9” or 10” with short dark hair.

Anyone with information which could help is asked to contact DC Iona Leigh-Jones via the 101 number, quoting Event 207715.

The incident comes after another Royal Cars cabbie, Sean Rogan, was attacked and had his shirt set slight during a morning pick-up.

The 51-year-old, who has been a cabbie for 30 years, had only just picked up two men on Oxbridge Avenue in Stockton when he felt a burning sensation on his arm.

He quickly realised his shirt had been set alight and jumped out of his Royal Cars taxi - the culprit then tried to fight him.

In a bizarre twist, the men then attempted to order another Royal Cars taxi immediately after the episode.

Police were also investigating that incident, which happened in Oxbridge Lane, Norton, on October 10.

I wish the fella well and hope he gets back to work soon.

Be very surprised if the firm or the trade don't know who the scumbags are.
