Now County (for schools) want all cars to have a daily report book kept in the car to record the "walk around" check

We have given our drivers a daily walk round check list for years.

Quote:
Good Afternoon,

Following recent spot checks this email is an advisory regarding the importance of Daily Walk Around Checks. This check needs to be carried out daily before all County Council contracts start as stipulated in the conditions. For this to work effectively drivers should be provided with a ‘log book’ or they should be submitting it online on a device. When we carry out spot checks we need to see the evidence of a spot check being carried out that morning.

Should we find any further issues on spot checks regarding the daily walk around check we will be taking compliance action from this day forward.

In addition to the issues we have had with the daily walk around checks, we have also noticed that a lot of the drivers are unaware of the route number, all vehicles should be displaying the route number they are on when on our contracts. Please therefore ensure that this is rectified with immediate effect, if there are any queries regarding the route numbers I will be happy to help.

For those of you who have remained compliant and have done the daily walkaround checks please ignore this email.

Kind Regards,

So what kind of proof is required?

Seems to me all they want is some kind of written record - literally a box-ticking exercise.

from our company point of view, we give the drivers the check sheet and ask them to do the checks. However we have no idea if the checks are being carried out correctly. If a driver has a problem with the car and it is something that should have been picked up on the check sheet we can then take them to task. for instance if a tyre is worn near the limit we will pay for a new tyre but if it is worn that low that it has become illegal then the driver will be paying simply because they have clearly not carried out the checks.
