Taxi driver caught carrying knuckleduster

https://www.wakefieldexpress.co.uk/news ... -1-9648501

A cabbie is facing punishment after being caught carrying a knuckleduster around in his car.

The Wakefield driver was apprehended by licensing officers, who'd been tipped off that the weapon was in the back pocket of his seat while he drove passengers around.

When an enforcement team visited his home, the knuckleduster was visible from outside the driver's vehicle.

He later gave the brass weapon up after enquiries were made.

The driver, who has not been named by the council, could now have his licence revoked.

The revelation was made in a crime report by Councillor Maureen Cummings, portfolio holder for communities.

Coun Cummings said: "Over the Christmas period, licensing enforcement officers were made aware by the transport depot of a taxi driver possibly travelling around with a knuckleduster in the pocket of his seat."

Licensing officers went out to the driver's address to see if we could see the weapon in the vehicle, which they did.

"The driver would not answer the door, but he later came to see them, and he handed over the brass knuckleduster where it was seized and taken to the police stores for safe keeping.

"The driver was later interviewed and will go before the licensing committee to receive his punishment."

What use would this have been to the driver if it was in the back pocket of his seat?

Why would he carry it around in there ? For the use of passengers ?
This could have been a set up, especially with an anonymous tip-off.
Just doesn’t sound right, unless he’s a complete c**k

I have worked for more than 30 years with Muslim cab drivers, they are mostly decent and honest. I have been in their houses(women are sometimes boss),good and bad in all Nigel.

Yes, all seems a bit odd, especially as it was easily visible from outside the vehicle.

On the other hand, the article suggests that the driver didn't deny that it was his, and the claim that he "would not answer the door" suggests he maybe knew why the enforcement officers had turned up.

But this is just the council's version of events, so no doubt the driver will have a different take on things when he appears before the committee. And it could simply be misreported - maybe the 'back seat pocket' isn't as we think it is.

Or, maybe, for example, some scrote left it there when they were getting out of the cab and saw police nearby, then a later punter saw it and reported the driver, who may have been totally unaware of it. And the driver was in the bath when the LOs rolled up :?

I'm pretty certain the driver had it for the reason people do have them.

And I'm pretty certain drivers like him should f*** off out of our trade.
