Thought someone had been moaning on here about bin trucks recently, but it was actually Sussex complaining about scaffolders

Anyway, usual mountain out of a molehill here in my opinion. Not the best or safest bit of driving you're likely to see, but council have jazzed up video a bit with dramatic music and screeching 'brakes'

And the pedestrian walking along pavement in the video doesn't seem slightest bit fazed by it all.

All bin wagons have now been fitted with camera after a rise in incidents.

This dramatic footage shows the moment an impatient taxi driver mounted a pavement in North Staffordshire to get round a bin lorry.

Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council has released the shocking video of the can narrowly missing pedestrians to avoid binmen in a bid to warn drivers to be careful.

The authority claims there has been an increase in the number of refuse collectors being hit by cars or involved in near misses.

Now all of the waste collection lorries have now been kitted out with four cameras that work while the vehicles are on shift.

Any footage capturing dangerous driving or collisions will be sent on to Staffordshire Police to investigate.

Councillor Trevor Johnson, cabinet member with responsibility for environment and recycling, said: “We are proud of the work that our waste operatives do and treat any risk of injury to them very seriously. They should be protected from harm whilst doing their job.

“Most drivers are considerate and cautious when they are near our waste collection vehicles, which is the safest course of action for all.

“The careless behaviour of some drivers and the dangers they create for our staff will always be reported to Staffordshire Police.”

Motoring offences in the UK are laid out by both the Road Traffic Act and the Highways Act.

Mounting the pavement is considered an offence under the Highways Act as well as being barred by rule 145 of the Highway Code.

The borough council says hundreds of motorists have already been issued fixed penalty notices, sent a court summons or forced to attend education courses for committing a range of offences.

It says injuries and deaths are not uncommon in the waste disposal sector with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) branding it as ‘one of the most dangerous’.

Driving instructor Stuart Johnson, of Road Skills in Madeley, says he regularly witnesses impatient motorists trying to squeeze past bin lorries.

He said: "I was out on the roads with a learner in the Westlands recently and as we were driving we saw a bin wagon picking up recycling boxes and just forward of it was a keep left sign. We were the first car and held back but a guy behind overtook us and went past on the wrong side.

"It is something I have seen become a norm over the last 12 months. I do a lot of coaching and asked the student what they would do and they said to wait.

"It's not just bin wagons either but horses and learners. There's an element of drivers who are just impatient."

The cameras on the bin lorries are not to keep an eye on other drivers, it's because the damage they do to others people's property and injuries they cause to others and themselves when doing the rounds.

Also to ensure no one can bung them a few quid to take commercial waste.
