A punter asked me “don’t you trust me?” When asked for the £75 fare up front.

Errrrrrrr......

No deal, I walked away. See, Theresa May, it’s easy.

No is the correct answer, and if the punter was legit he wouldn't have even mentioned it.

Should read "may be" not "maybe"

Anyone asked for the money up front for a journey of less than 5 miles?

yes there are a few around that will dissappear into the house and refuse to come out even on short journeys

Maybe, but reading maybe as meaning 'perhaps' kind of makes sense too.

So it works either way, to a degree at least, but in terms of clear English it's a bit clunky.

Probably, but quite an unusual event, so can't recall specific examples offhand.

Unusual here even on longer *journeys*, but if I do ask it tends to be part of the fare negotiation: "I'll take you to x for £y if you give me the money up front."

But Wanna's notice at least reminds me that I'll have to stop spelling 'journeys' as 'journies'

And I'd be more bothered about what "out of the area" means - it's presumably alluding to the law as regards metered fares out of the licensing area etc, but in terms of clarity it won't mean much to the average punter.
