wait a minute guys...i thought the law for p/h say you cant charge any more than £2.60 for first mile ??? well, it is here in ayrshire, dunno about the rest of you guys  ... so how does that go with xmas day &new years day :? when they all up there prices ?????

Providing you advertise your fares, you can charge what you want.

Doesn't mean you will get what you want though.

no you cant m8...not in ayrshire...

t/c's state that the maximum a p/h can charge is £2.60 for first mile.
will go back on to south ayrshire council's site and dig em out for you.
but they state it quite clearly eusasmiles.zip

Must be different in Scotland, Private hire means exactly that, every fare is a contract between the company and the customer. if i quote £50 for a job that is normally £40 and the customer accepts it then thats what it is.

A council cannot dictate what a private hire company charges, only Hackney rates can be decided by the council.

A lot of Councils make up rules that mean nothing in law, but they'll get away with it until it's challenged in court.

Our LO has decided that refunds under £40 wont be made even though there's a £10 admin charge! Totally illegal to refuse a refund provided the admin charge is paid.

Wonder how the Council would react if i refused to pay my last monthly Council tax payment because "i dont pay bill's under £100".

The legislation gives the councils no power to set PH fares, but some do.

We have a few PH here but they work alonside mainly taxi offices, so it would be a bit daft if most charged the taxi metered rate and the others charged a different rate. In fact some did that before, but the council made them fit taxi meters. I think if they were running purely PH then they could run without meters.

I doubt if they would get away with it if challenged but like other areas they tend to chance their arm and hope they will get away with it.

so what your saying is....

some of the local companys are looking to put up the fare to £3.00 first mile.

can they do this legally here ? or is it a case of if enough companys band together and want this change...it has got to happen ?? :?

It's not really a case of how many of the companies are in favour as much as whether it's legal or not.

If they want to charge more than the council set fares perhaps they should ask the council what legal powers they have to set PH fares under the civic goverment act.

Big J have read your tariff sheet properly IT say you can charge fair and a half over the festive period
A 1 mile run would be £3.90 before midnight and £4.40 after
A 2 mile run would be £6.00 and £6.50 after midnight

YEH..seen it but.....thats all fair and well in A BIG TOWN/CITY....i live in small town of approx 12000 people m8.

if you charged that kind of fares here they would kick up sh** and use another thats cheaper....simple !.

its dog eat dog down here m8.....
the most they charge here on festive season is 1st mile £3.50 then the usual £1.00 per mile after.
1 company charges £4.00 but people only use this company as a last resort  .
see all you guys a comparing your towns/citys with my small one...it doesn't work like that here...think i told you all this before.

people here WILL use the cheapest first if they can get it.....otherwise, they will call there usual cab company next....then the crappy dear one last !
great little town but you gotta know how the people tick m8..really.
you go in there charging all sorts of prices and you will get blanked..simple as that.. eusasmiles.zip

thats why i thought of £3.00 for first mile on xmas...I ONLY HAVE MYSELF TO PAY and my car, so if i can generate more fares by cutting them, so be it...
i would rather be busy with a lot of £3.00 fares than doing 100 £3.50 fares all dam day..
and besides...i,m starting a NEW COMPANY and if i can generate enough intrest over xmas with my £3.00 fares & slightly more upmarket vehicle, this should stand me in good for jan / feb 2006....
