An Uber private hire car collided with a bollard in Eddington Avenue yesterday evening causing one woman casualty to be taken to hospital.

The incident, involving a white Skoda Rapid, is understood to have occurred at around 6.20pm on Thursday evening.

From pictures taken at the scene, the car suffered damage to is bumper while the bollard was also affected.

The woman was treated for her injuries, which are not thought to be serious, by paramedics before being taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital for further checks.

An East of England Ambulance spokeswoman said: "We were called at 6.21pm (July 11th) with reports of a road traffic collision in Eddington Avenue, Cambridge.

"We sent an ambulance and a rapid response vehicle. A woman was taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital for further treatment by ambulance.

"The patient was assessed and treated at the scene for a possible neck injury and was taken to hospital for further care."

A Cambridgeshire police spokesman added: "Police were called yesterday (11 July) to reports of a collision on Eddington Avenue, Cambridge, involving a white Skoda Rapid.

"Officers attended to assist while a recovery took place."

From July 4, rising bollards have been in place along Eddington Avenue on Monday-Friday between 7am and 7pm.

Only buses and approved vehicles can gain access to Eddington Avenue during this time.

All other vehicles must travel via Turing Way.

Alex Wynick, communications co-ordinator for North West Cambridge Development insisted it wasn't too late for taxi drivers and private hire car drivers to apply to be on the list to use the Eddington rising bollards.

She said: "Taxi drivers can apply at any time to be added to the whitelist for the Eddington rising bollards."
