Violent woman hit boyfriend over head with beer bottle after punching taxi driver

A VIOLENT woman wounded her boyfriend by hitting him over the back of the head with a beer bottle soon after she punched a Leamington taxi driver.

Although Andene Harvey admitted wounding her then boyfriend during the incident at his flat, she denied doing so with intent to cause him grievous bodily harm.

But even though her ex refused to give evidence, a jury at Warwick Crown Court found her guilty, and 37-year-old Harvey, of Bury Road, Leamington, was jailed for four years.

Prosecutor Simon Rippon said in July last year Harvey had been captured by a CCTV camera in Leamington town centre behaving violently towards her boyfriend and a taxi driver.

A CCTV recording played in court showed Harvey kicking and lashing out at her boyfriend in Victoria Terrace until he gave up trying to calm her down and walked away.

She then vented her anger by kicking a taxi parked outside a nearby restaurant, and then punching the driver in the face before her boyfriend returned to lead her away as the driver called the police.

Ninety minutes later, a man heard shouting coming from a ground-floor flat in Charles Gardner Road and went to check everything was alright. Her boyfriend opened the door and was immediately struck on the head from behind with a beer bottle by Harvey.

And when he fell to the floor with blood pouring from the wound Harvey stood over him and began kicking him.

The Good Samaritan tried to protect him from further attack and managed to get him into the bathroom.

Harvey began smashing furniture before banging on the bathroom door to get in.

Eventually she left the flat, and when the police arrived they found her outside with a cut to her leg.

Inside the flat, officers found her boyfriend covered in blood, but he made it clear he did not want medical treatment and did not want to make a complaint.

Harvey, who had made no comment when she was interviewed, accepted she had hit her boyfriend with the bottle as they argued in the flat.

She denied intending to cause him serious injury when she did so – but that was rejected by the jury.

Jailing her, Judge Peter Cooke said that hitting someone from behind with a bottle, intending to cause serious harm, had to result in a significant prison sentence.

One has to wonder if it's getting worse for us all.

Or it's always been this way but more of it gets reported nowadays.
