2 of the people who were driving for us have just bought their own cars and they are going it alone. I have no problem with this except that they are trying to take some of our customers with them, but that's life I suppose. However the cars they have chose?n are a ford focus which is ok and an ex Addison lee galaxy automatic which is not the most fuel efficient vehicle and particularly with the way they drive. Yes, these are the 2 drivers who cost us a fortunE in repairs. They have now decided to offer 20% discounts on fares whilst at the same time re applying for the rise in the tariff. Anyone think they have the right idea?

Leave them to it, my old man used to say, "never bite the hand that feeds you or who has fed you." We've all seen these screamers try and go it alone by offering 20-40% discounts, fools are always busy.

every single "new" taxi business thinks that discounting is a great idea. Yes they will take customers off you and will probably not get themselves a great reputation for comfort or reliability

If you are clever then maybe some behind the scenes work to stop the tariff rise might throw a spanner in the works other than that there isn't much you can do legally

They are clearly trying to build up a customer base via a big discount.

I prefer the customer service way of building up a customer base.

Earning a living is hard enough without giving it away.

In my experience the biggest moaners about discounting are generally big discounters themselves, but get a bit uppity when someone steals their thunder [-(

our company was built on the back of school runs. At the start of the last school year between them they had school runs totaling over £1,300 a week, Yes a week. Now they don't want to do school work because it is "to restrictive".

We change to private hire next Monday so that we can increase our prices to allow for higher wages for the drivers.

My lad had a £600/week school and asked another driver why his base didnt do schools..."I might get an airport"

That school run was 25% better per trip (380 trips per 39 weeks) than any airport with us being between BHX and EMA

I'd be careful about the language you use, though - self-employed drivers don't earn 'wages'

we have been encouraging our drivers to become employees. We only have 2 self employed drivers now and we are recruiting more as employees when we can.
It is only a few weeks since the first one joined us but so far it is working well.
