Tell us something Dusty, if you were Taxi King, what would be your ideal licensing situation, because it seems whatever anyone does, wherever they are in Great Britain, you will find fault in it somewhere along the line?

The nature of these things is that we discuss the shortcomings rather than the positives, so that's the way these things tend to be, as your own postings demonstrate.

You and Mr 187ums seem to have already decided that I would do something about the KOL, but all I've said is that if it was up to me and it I was designing it from scratch then I probably wouldn't have it in it's current form - there a difference between that and reforming it, which has to take account of what's there already.

As regards various parts of the country, I've never really went into the minutiae but, for example, since there's quite a tough knowledge test in Brighton and the DSA test is being implemented (I think) then to me that's not bad.

On the other hand, in areas where there's neither knowledge test nor DSA test then obviously that would be something like what I'd like to see in these areas. And that's a proper knowledge test, not the type that many owners in the trade would like to see.

More generally, as regards the debates on here, to me it's more of a case of discussing the broad principle rather than the minutiae, ie that proportionate standards are a good thing, as compared to many in the trade who think they're a bad thing because they threaten the supply of drivers for their vehicle.

But even with the broad standards bit it's clear that my position even on that has to be repeated endlessly.

Yep, Dusty wants a de-restricted London to de-restrict. :-s

I think you mean a 'de-restricted London to deregulate' :D

i think for the big smoke you need a higher level of knowledge, so if it takes three years then so be it. However to make it a free for all, is not right.

As I said, it's dangerous to 'assume' :D

I don't have sat nav, can't afford it, but you are right it took me forever.

But if I was doing that run more often, I can tell you it wouldn't take me three years to find the best way.

Multiply that by a thousand times and you might?

Argos has some cheap sat nav's for about £175 at the moment.

I think any of us that have used or seen sat nav work realise that it will never replace proper knowledge.

A great aid, but that's it's limit.

Aid is correct. Theres no accounting for knowledge. Ask our friends on the Fastblack forum and the Cabby forum? lol

They could do with a lorra knowledge, as cilla would say?
