A Guildford taxi driver has suffered “a number of injuries” after being assaulted by a passenger in Aldershot according to Hampshire police.

The incident took place at around 1.30am on Saturday (September 28) after the driver, a 41-year-old man, had picked up the passenger in Guildford.

He drove the taxi to Station Road in Aldershot, before stopping the car in a layby. The passenger, who had already paid the fare prior to leaving Guildford, then demanded a refund from the victim.

Upon refusing the refund, the passenger assaulted the taxi driver, causing injuries to his face, hands and ribs. Further “substantial damage” was caused to the taxi itself.

Police have released a picture of the man they want to speak to in relation to the assault.

A spokesman for Hampshire Constabulary said: “Officers have released a photo of a man they want to speak to after a taxi driver was assaulted in Aldershot.

“The victim suffered a number of injuries to his face, hand and ribs. Substantial damage was also caused to the vehicle.”

The incident occurred on Sunday 29 September 2019 between 1am and 1.30am when a man and woman were headed to Bootham after being picked up on Rainsborough Way.
