A No 10 source says a Brexit deal is "essentially impossible" after a call between the PM and Angela Merkel.
Boris Johnson spoke to the German chancellor earlier about the proposals he put forward to the EU - but the source said she made clear a deal based on them was "overwhelmingly unlikely".

They also claimed she said a deal would never be possible unless Northern Ireland stayed in a customs union.

Inevitable really the EU want to protect Irelands position they always have. The only way a Brexit deal is remotely possible is to offer to separate Northern Ireland from the rest of the UK.

I think she also wants to force the PM to ask for an extension which the EU will vote in favour of

The only reason for an extension is if a deal is close. As stated, a deal is not possible then there should be no agreement for an extension.
If I were Boris I would be on the phone to Nigel Farage and tell him that it is over to him to make life in the EU Hell.

Thing is if parliament hadn't acted like a bunch of knobs recently then, IMO, it would be almost guaranteed that a deal would have been done by the 31/10.

Now there still might be a deal, but the chances are now less since the idiots voted for the Benn deal.

the BENN act wasn't a proposed deal it was just a requirement in law to get one which means the EU have us by the short and curlies we now have no choice but to vote for TM's atrociously bad deal or keep this whole mess rumbling on and on

The more I think about it the more I'm certain TM deal was a mess, and if she hadn't been voted in by the Tories as leader the country would now be outside the EU with a deal.

The EU have preyed on the weakness of the Tories majority in Parliament, and the fact that too many MPs realise that they were voted in by the same folks who voted to Leave.

There will be a price to pay for that, and it will be paid soon.

Correction: Theresa May was not voted in by the Tories at all. She became the leader after all the other candidates withdrew from the contest leaving her unopposed. There was no vote.

In other words they stitched her up knowing full well it was a poisoned chalice.

You could put it that way.

So a deal done "allegedly" but what are the chances of it getting voted through ?

I suspect Corbyn and his chums will do everything possible to scupper it

BUT if they do does this mean the Benn act is null and void as this is a "new" deal being presented ?

Nothing stopping Boris writing another letter saying please ignore the last one, we don't want an extension.

The Brexiteers are far from being daft, and I'm quite sure they have the Surrender Act covered.

I would think that Boris will write a letter but before he sends it he will read the reply to it because he probably already has been given it by the EU.

According to the Experts on the news the EU has already made it clear they will agree to an extension

And now parliament insists on no yes vote unless he asks for an extension whilst they agree the Brexit legislation  which I doubt could be agreed anyway

I said 3 years ago that we would never leave and it looks like that is going to be the case after substantial damage to the UK economy and it's reputation in the world

and "our" rebel Tory MP was one of those voting against the government
