Not entirely clear in what circumstances this happened. But despite the lack of context and the fact it happened yards from his home, the stuff about being afraid to return to work and extra protection being required for those working in the trade suggest that the attack was job-related.

A taxi driver has been left too terrified to go back behind the wheel after his ear was sliced in half in a brutal attack.

Sajid Javed, 36, suffered stab and slash wounds to the head, back and arm when he was assaulted yards from his home in Govan, Glasgow, on Sunday.

Now recovering at home, the dad-of-three told how he has been left too afraid to return to his job following the incident.

Two men have been charged with assaulting Sajid to his severe injury and permanent disfigurement.

Sajid told how he thought he was going to die as he suffered multiple blows – one which left his ear cut in two.

He said: “There was so much blood all over my shirt and trousers. I was really scared but God gave me a new life.”

Sajid’s wife Shazia Shehzadi, 36, said: “I was shouting and crying for help as we waited for the ambulance and police.

“There was so much blood and we didn’t know where it was coming from so we were just putting pressure on the wounds.

“It was coming from everywhere.”

Sajid was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital to have emergency treatment and was allowed home on Monday on full bed rest.

Medics said it would be several weeks before he is able to work again but he fears he will never be ready to return to his job. Shazia said: “We have three daughters.

"They’re not sleeping and they are too scared to even have the windows open at night.

“Everyone is scared here.”

Police said two men aged 21 and 20 have been arrested and charged in connection with the alleged attack.

The Crown Office confirmed that two men appeared in private at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Monday. They made no plea and were remanded in custody pending another court date.

The family now want to fight for stricter laws to protect those working in the taxi trade and on other public transport.

Govan MSP Anas Sarwar said there is a “culture” of abuse and violence against taxi drivers and other workers dealing with the public which needs to be confronted.

He said: “There is clearly an issue here around how we can adequately protect people at work, who are going about their daily lives and trying to put food on the table for their families but paying a very heavy price and are fearful of going to work.”

A bit more on this. Doesn't really read like a robbery or a dispute with passengers. I'm guessing he's arrived home and got into an altercation with some randoms on the street for some reason :-|

Govan taxi driver scarred for life in frenzied knife attack yards from home

Anguished wife Shazia describes the terrifying moment dad-of-three Sajid collapsed outside their house soaked in blood as she fears knife crime is on the rise in the community

A taxi driver has been left scarred for life after being stabbed multiple times in Govan.

Dad-of-three Sajid Javed was slashed across his left ear and suffered multiple wounds to his arms and back after the horror attack yards from his house on Vicarfield Street at around 4:20am on Sunday morning.

The 36-year-old was rushed by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for surgery. In the days since, he has been resting at home "in a state of shock" as his devastated wife fears knife crime is on the rise in the area.

Shazia, 39, recalled the traumatising moment her husband collapsed, soaked in blood, outside their house after driving away from the scene.

She tells Glasgow Live: "He left his keys in the ignition and got out. I watched him fall down on the ground. There was so much blood. It was terrifying. I was screaming and shouting and my neighbours came out to help."

Shazia told how Sajid needed stitches to wounds in his back, arms and a five-inch slash running from his left ear to the side of his eye. It's not known how long he will be out of work.

She said the incident has had a particularly harrowing impact on their three daughters, aged 12, seven and three.

She added: "It's awful. The doctors did what they could but he has been left with permanent damage to his hands and ears.

"He has been lying down a lot and not speaking very much. We don't know when he can go back to his job.

"Our family and friends are so upset. Our girls are so shocked, in a really bad state of mind. They are struggling to sleep and the older two don't want to go to school."

Shazia fears knife crime has become a rising problem among youths in Govan in recent months.

"Every week police are in the area," she said. "They might arrest people and one or two days later they are back. There were two groups fighting in the street last night.

"We see teenagers in the streets holding very long knifes around two or three times a week. They show them off.

"We don't have street cameras. This area is really getting worse now. We don't let the girls out to play."

Two men have been charged in connection with a serious assault in Vicarfield Street.

Southside Private Hire confirm they are aware of the incident and are in touch with Sajid's family.

MSP Chris Stephens has been contacted for comment.

Well despite the lack of information in the earlier articles, the report on the court case makes it clear that it *was* a dispute with passengers over money up front, so not particularly unusual in that regard, although the severity of the reaction obviously was.

But still not entirely clear how the earlier articles seemed to say the assault took place outside his home, while this piece below doesn't mention that angle at all.

Taxi driver left permanently scarred after being stabbed over £20 fare

Gordon McPherson, 21, and Dylan Sullivan, 20, stabbed and punched the cabbie after he requested his fare up front

A cabbie was permanently scarred after being assaulted by two men over a £20 fare.

Savid Javed was stabbed by Gordon McPherson, 21, and repeatedly punched by Dylan Sullivan, 20, outside their house in August this year.

Mr Javed was pounced upon after requesting his fare up front in the early hours of the morning.

McPherson and Sullivan pled guilty at Glasgow Sheriff Court to the assault on Mr Javed.

The court heard the pair ordered a cab to their house in Govan to Scotstoun in Glasgow's west end and back again. The call handler told them that the fare would have to be paid up front because of the distance.

Mr Javed arrived and told McPherson and Sullivan that the fare was £20 which they “took exception” to.

Prosecutor Pat Callendar said: “They began to assault him.

“McPherson struck Mr Javed on the head and body with a knife while Sullivan repeatedly punched him on the head.

“Mr Javed bled during the assault.”

Neighbours claimed to have heard the assault taking place and the name ‘Gordon’ shouted.

Mr Javed bravely made his way into his taxi while his attackers fled the scene.

A neighbour made a 999 call and an ambulance took Mr Javed to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

The victim was treated for a wound to his upper cheek which required nine stitches. He also received four stitches for a cut on his head and two for a gash on his back.

Miss Callendar added: “Mr Javed will be permanently scarred.”

Police later attended at the house and Sullivan was spotted with blood on his clothing. Sullivan told the officers that he had been assaulted but gave no further details.

McPherson was also tracked down and had blood on his hands.

The pair were then arrested by police.

Sentence was deferred until next week by Sheriff Ian Fleming for background reports and McPherson and Sullivan were remanded in custody meantime.

Joining the dots between the three articles, I'm guessing he drove himself home after the incident, and then an ambulance was called, but reading the latest article in isolation suggests someone phoned for an ambulance at the scene.

Note that the earlier article says he "drove away from the scene" and left his keys in the ignition before collapsing, suggesting he had been driving the car while injured.

I'm guessing the attack took place fairly close to his home, but not actually outside it as suggested earlier.

Well done to the police for getting enough evidence to force a guilty plea. =D>

Be very surprised if the thugs don't get a number of years inside.

Very much doubt the Judge would have remanded them in custody if he was in a generous mood.

Man who stabbed taxi driver over £20 fare attacks Barlinnie inmate

https://planetradio.co.uk/clyde/local/n ... barlinnie/

Gordon McPherson, 25, lashed out at Ryan Gordon at the prison in May 2021

A man who brutally stabbed a taxi driver over a £20 fare has slashed a fellow prisoner while behind bars.

Gordon McPherson, 25, lashed out at Ryan Gordon in Glasgow's HMP Barlinnie on May 21 2021.

The pair had history which became violent during a prisoner snooker match.

McPherson stabbed Gordon on the neck behind the ear.

The incident took place 16 months after McPherson was locked up for assaulting Sajid Javed.

McPherson stabbed Mr Javid while co-accused Dylan Sullivan repeatedly punched him in the city's Govan.

The pair earlier "took exception" to a £20 fare before ambushing the dad-of-three Mr Javed leaving him with nine stitches and terrified of working.

McPherson pleaded guilty to his latest charges of assaulting Gordon and having two razor blades without a reasonable excuse.

Glasgow Sheriff Court heard that the two men were near each other but not communicating while the snooker match was taking place.

Prosecutor Alasdair Knox said: "McPherson reached to his right while using a razor blade with a plastic handle and struck him once to the back of his neck behind the left ear."

The pair then got into a fight which was separated by prison guards.

McPherson dropped a weapon from his pocket to the ground before being restrained.

Gordon was meantime noted to be "bleeding heavily" from his neck and was taken away for medical attention.

He was treated at Glasgow Royal Infirmary with steri strips.

McPherson was then searched for more weapons and he was noted to put something in his mouth, later found to be a razor blade.

Des Ziolo, defending, told the court that there was a "history between parties" and McPherson had been injured previously.

Sheriff Joan Kerr sentenced McPherson, of the city's Gorbals, to 27 months behind bars.
