I posted this in another post on here but it seems to have been overlooked so I'll create a new post instead.

I wonder how the LA's will handle the School taxi conundrum after the Schools reopen, they are going to either need more taxis or buses to keep to social distancing guidelines or breach their own school transport commitments and make the parents take those kids who normally qualify for school transport take them in themselves....and that wont please working parents.

I fear that this might screw the tens of thousands LA contractors who rely on School contracts for a big chunk of their living, especially as all other work has dried up.

Maybe I'm being overly pessimistic but I can't see how they can go back to how it was before with the fear of Covid hanging over everything and everybody for some time to come....will it impact the trade for weeks, months or years to come?.

I am not going to speculate on something like this. I will wait and see. However I have already got 2 contracts confirmed for the start of the next school year with a price increase.

I have contracts for the next school year as well but I cant see the normal rules applying, last year my numbers fluctuated between 3 and 6 pupils in an 8 seater and I really can't see that being acceptable post covid, that said the same rules will apply for School buses that are normally crammed to the gunwales.

Tis a bit of a concern.

Apparently Lincolnshire county council are asking operaters to supply one vehicle per pupil so firms with a minibus contract to supply one 8 seater are being asked to supply up to 8 cars instead

Allegedly based on a resumption on June the 1st

It may well be they'll divide the school day in two and have morning pupils and afternoon pupils to stagger the numbers at any given time, you would have thought it safe for siblings to travel together seeing as they slum it together at home.

Who knows, we might get more work not less.

I don't do school contracts so doubt it apart from the odd local journey

As we all know many schools have remained open, thus some school taxi/PH runs are still happening.

Down here the schools are insisting that no more than two kids go in a saloon, which has had the effect of increasing the number of vehicles required to cover those schools.

we have a 2 pupil school run, only 1 is attending (mon/wed/friday), the run is with an escort (my wife), ive put a vinyl screen up, wife sits up front, kid in the back, if the 2nd kid starts going both will sit in the rear, no way am i risking our lives, the kids can wear masks, or mum can keep em off, i cant see our school making it 1 kid per car per day.

our other run is 2 year 11's (who might be leaving school early) and 1 year 9 whose mum kept him off from day 1

Why does this contract need an escort? Most of the contracts we have had over the years that require an escort is because of the child's behaviour. So not much good having the escort in a separate compartment.

needs cos county say it needs

(they have travelled together for 3 years inc previous school)

escort up front is safest in my estimation and works for me

Ours come with a data sheet saying where the escort has to sit in relation to the student and why.

well we have 2 kids/1 guide in a saloon so the guide is only ever by 1 of them...

otherwise it would mean all 3 sit on the back seat and that aint ever gonna happen

these clever feckers in offices dont encounter real life situations

Our LA has the good sense to let the Escort decide where to sit as no two Students have the same requirements and also Numbers on board can fluctuate which changes the dynamics of the run.
