I bought a cheap portable DVD player recently, and hoped to use it in the car.

Problem is that when the car engine is running the sound disappears on the DVD player. When the engine is killed the sound takes a minute or two to come back to life, but to start with it is faint and crackly and gradually gets louder.

The car is a 95 Mondeo, and I'm powering the DVD using a cigarette lighter adapter supplied with it.

Any ideas?

Can't you just charge it up at home and watch it via the battery? :?

I haven't actually tried it with the battery in the car yet, so there's no guarantee it would solve it.

Anyway, the reason I bought it was for the convenience of using it with the adaptor, and using the battery would be a pain.

Looks like I'll just have to use the subtitles. :-|

Maybe it might not crackle so much if you used earphones. :?

It's not so much the crack when it's coming back to life that bothers me, it's the fact that there's no sound at all when the car's running.

I might give earphones a try though.
