I was stopped today, after dropping a fare and was returning to the rank plying for hire on the way, by the traffic police, not local , for not wearing a seatbelt.
tried to explain, not required but they would not listen.
Went round to the police station spoke to receptionist, she got a sergeant, that looked like he had just left high school,
explained what happened , and even he didn't understand, why i wasn't wearing one he thought we was all ph, when we are licenced taxis
told him to get the ticket cancelled, as it never had the fact it was a taxi on it and that I would be paying nothing, even showed him the .gov web site with the exemption on it, told him we have been exempt since seatbelts became law in 1983.
when I came out i found they had also given tickets to 2 other drivers for the same thing

Did they cancel it? If not, you may have to go to court to get it overturned.

sounds like a blitz organized by a young officer trying to make a name for themselves!

Make a complaint to the chief constable!

We had the same here with one particular officer. She gave a ticket to a driver for not wearing his seat belt and later the same day she gave him another one for carrying a child without a child seat. By coincidence, it is the same driver who does the podcast mentioned in another thread. of course both tickets were cancelled.

Defo some new recruit on an agenda.

Letter to the press or complaint to the online section of the local police site will place said new recruit in the lowly position he deserves.

One has to wonder whether or not his colleagues have arranged this as a joke.

It would not get anywhere near a court if an appeal goes in.

You could well be right.
