Found this in the Newark Advertiser. But to read the whole article costs 20p for 24 hour access =;

But from the first few lines that are on display, driver says it's the first Tesla HC in the country. Works mainly from Newark Northgate rail station. He says a Tesla's a 'no-brainer' for drivers with a taxi 'coming towards the end of its life'.

I'd dispute that at the best of times, but since the article is probably mainly 'advertorial' (which is one reason I'm I'm not parting with my 20p [-( ), I suppose we have to take it all with a pinch of salt.

And by first in *country*, presumably he means England, because in Dundee at least there was a Tesla plated HC about three years ago.

However, that article smacked of advertorial as well, and somehow I can't see a near-£60k Tesla working the pubs and clubs of Dundee at 3am.

Don't know if it's still around, and it may have had something to do with fact that plates can only be transferred in Dundee if the replacement car is an EV.

Certainly can't ever recall seeing it on the streets, but I'm not exactly in Dundee every day.

Don't think it is for England even I'm sure similar stories have appeared on here but it is such an unimportant story that it's not worth bothering

Gatwick Cars have had a few since Tesla first came out.

PHVs, presumably?

Yes, does seem to be a few PHVs around (there were the two in Edinburgh with the disputed number plates) but apart from the Dundee one I can't really recall any HCs until this one.

But I think we can assume there's none in Stamford or the surrounding area [-(

Certainly not a realistic option if you need a WAV :-s

Just noticed these two comments left on the Newark Advertiser's website. It would seem the Tesla is operating in Dundee. Would still be very surprised if two Model Ss are working the ranks in Dundee on a conventional basis [-(

Myles Laing wrote:
Sorry, but in Dundee there has been a Tesla Model S being used as a taxi for a good while now and a couple more have recently been added, both Model S and Model 3.

This other comment is interesting, if only to demonstrate that the author doesn't understand the significance of the word 'hackney' :-s

Alan LC wrote:
I am sorry to say that this is not the first Tesla to offer hackney transport. My own M3 LR has been offering PVH for sometime now. http://www.theteslataxi.co.uk

Also interesting is the website, which I spent several minutes looking at to find out where they were based, but was none the wiser.

But one page goes on about carbon emissions on a flight from San Francisco to Paris, but then says: "The Tesla Taxi Company will take you to the iconic Blackpool illuminations this year." :-o

Which I thought was maybe a clue as to their location

But then another page links to the Stag and Hounds, Melton Mowbray

Other evidence suggests the Tesla Taxi Company is actually based in Burrough on the Hill, near Melton Mowbray.

Slightly bizarre website, though, when you have to look through it for several minutes to find out where it's actually based.

the Stag and Hounds is at Burrough which is nearer Somerby than Melton  but it's an easy mistake to make if your not local!

The owner of this company ha connections with the Stag and Hounds. I think my son did a companies house check an the company is registered in Plymouth or somewhere like that. The vehicles are private hire and licensed by Melton borough Council. I have been in touch with the Council regarding the total lack of company details on the website, which I am told is a legal requirement. My son sent an enquiry to them from his sisters email address and we got a reply back to our company email stating "if you want to know our prices just ask". This is strange because there is no link between the email address that the enquiry was sent from and the email address that the reply came to. Even the name of the account is different and from a different address so I wonder how they linked them? My son responded by saying that there were a lot of scammers around at the moment and with no contact details available we were checking them out.

But they're both small villages that few have ever heard of, so you wouldn't just pick the next village along to tell a non-local where it is :-o

Took these screengrabs yesterday. Not really sure why now, but in fact you could just about say that Burrough is as close to Oakham as Melton, and Oakham is a reasonably sized town. On the other hand, Oakham comes under Rutland council, and Melton is a bit bigger.

Anyway, that's all a bit academic, because I just took the location from the Stag & Hounds website:

The Stag & Hounds wrote:
The Stag & Hounds | 4 Main Street

Burrough on the Hill | Melton Mowbray LE14 2JQ

In fact they even state Melton Mowbray in their own logo :-o

So I may not be local, but I do do my research =D>

Don't @ me [-X

Yes, was going to say the other day that the I think the e-commerce rules (or whatever) state that you have to include a postal address on websites like that. Maybe it's there somewhere, but I spent a good few mintues looking, and couldn't find anything. And the whole website is generally quite vague with regard to where they're located, apart from the Stag & Hounds clue.

Anyway:

Somerby isn't that small and for people more local such as me I consider it to be on the road towards leicester not Melton!
