Hello there, I've been a ph driver for about a year now and for the most part its been good !

But ive been renting a doblo for 155notes a week and im impressed with the thing so im thinking of buying my own. But which one would you lot say is best suited for the job? They range from the 1.2 active ( ive seen them for £7229 on tinernet ) to the 1.9 jtd !!!

I know they look crap but they do the job !!!!

So you got my posting on Jamies forum.

Welcome.

I can't comment on the Doblo, in London were only allowed to buy the one type of Taxi, mainly the wonderfuly unreliable overpriced TX2.

But what do we know, we only drive and maintain them.

I we were allowed the Doblo alongside the TX2, I would buy one anyway just to stick two fingers up every time I drove past Mann and Overtons dealership in Holloway Road.

That seems rather high for a vehicle you could own for about £60 finance a week?

If your in a restricted plate area you've come to the wright, or wrong place, depending where you stand.

sorry to put spanner in spoke here m8 but....

local p/h company started out with 2 x fiat doblo's and fiat people carrier...

2 yrs down the line and.....

the doors are falling off the doblos with RUST...interior is very very shabby indeed..like minging !
broke down and in garage at least 1 per mth....he blew up the engine in one..( 169,000 on clock).....and they sound like bloody tractors...sorry....no offence to tractor guys here....lol
the people think they look like a pope mobile  ....ugly mothers.
i wouldnt like something like that pulling up outside my house to take me to a fancy resturant [-X with my suit on...er.no
as for the people carrier thing..well....

its NEVER out the dam garage.
doors rusted...not closing proper......3 clutchs later  ..gear stick came out in his hand.
listen...i could go on here....i take it you got the message ????.

dont waste yer money m8....they are approx £48 per wk incl vat from taxi centre.

http://www.thetaxicentre.com/fiat.asp

but for another £20-30quid you could get something a whole lot better....
looks wise AND reliability wise to.....LOOK BEFORE YOU JUMP IN MY FRIEND.
they maybe look good and cheap to by now.....but you got to think 2 yrs or so down the line

I understand what your saying bigj but like I said Ive been impressed with the one i got at the mo. Its 2 years old now and ive been driving it for just under a year, I dont kick the siht out of it even tho its not mine !!

To be fair to the company that own it , it is serviced regular and gets a weekly check, although it just went thru plating before Christmas and the garage said it needed a few hundreds quids worth of work on it!!
But surely most 2 year old cars will need some work done on them ! Wont they ?????????

2 yr old cars.....
shouldnt need anything major at all....even tho they are doing average 60,000 miles per yr.
maybe the odd shocker / spring.....
my m8 has p/h taxis...uses pugs 406's...had em 3 yrs now and hardly any cost at all for repair.
minor repairs to bodywork due to knocks and dents  .
but underneath...sound as they come.
skodas are the same m8.....sound.

good luck with yours.....honestly.....but i believe you pay for what you get.....if you want quality and something that will out last the other cars in reliability / bodywork ect...you gotta pay for it.....depends on how much your budget can allow for i guess........
but me....i like something that looks good as well as having good fuel consumption / space.....but i,m a petrolhead
everybody has there own idea of a good car for taxi's.....

Well I'm sure there's plus points in every car, but I can't think of many people who would buy the Doblo unless they have to - for example if they need a WAV and the council allows Doblo WAVs.

According to the Taxi Centre website you can have an old style Octavia for the same price, or for a tenner or so more you could have an old style Octavia estate, a new style Octavia saloon or Superb.

These may be the base models, but I know which I'd rather drive if given the choice, at least compared to the Doblo.

I bought mine for no other reason than its great to drive. I never get the back and leg pain I used to get when driving a standard car. Also you would be surprised how the punters love them they find they easy to get into and also comment on how they make them feel alot safer, they aint nice to look at granted but they are better for the private hire job than any car I have used before (vectra, mondeo, 306 ,406, megane, proton, zx,) apart from maybe the skoda.

forgive me father...i have sinned...i got into a doblo  ten hail marys getting out of the dam thing  ....
