Interesting that you have to live in one of the Liverpool City Region councils to be eligible for the grant:

I suspect Sefton has more drivers living outside the council area than most, but obviously the Liverpool Region Area covers several other council areas. So I wonder what proportion of drivers won't get the grant?

But for those not eligible, I somehow doubt that another council would entertain applications for a grant from Sefton-badged drivers.

So imagine if every council in the land was handing out grants using the Sefton criteria. That would mean that if you didn't live in the council area you're badged in then you wouldn't receive any grant

Interesting, too, that the Sefton grant seems to be based on being a badge-holder. So doesn't matter if you don't own a plated vehicle. And multi-owners and/or those without a badge won't receive anything?

Discretionary grant available for Luton leisure and hospitality businesses impacted by coronavirus

A discretionary grant has been made available for businesses in Luton impacted by coronavirus restrictions.

The Additional Restrictions Grant (ARG) has been developed by Luton Borough Council for businesses in the retail, hospitality, travel and leisure sectors, or businesses in the events and aviation sector.

It is targeted at local firms which have not been able to receive help from the Local Restriction Support Grants (LRSG).

The scheme will also help businesses outside the business rates system. This will include taxi/private hire drivers who have also been severely impacted but have not qualified for previous grant funding and this group will receive a one off grant payment of £500 if they live and are licensed in Luton. There will also be some set aside for business support programmes.

These one off payments have been split into three levels with a £5,000 award given to businesses most impacted, £3,000 given to those lesser impacted and businesses with minor impact will receive £1,000.

In the first round eligible businesses can apply until 24 December 2020. Further rounds will be made available, if and when further national or local Tier 3 restrictions are enforced if funding is still available.

Cllr Sian Timoney, portfolio holder for economic development, said: “It continues to be an incredibly tough time for businesses and so the introduction of more grant schemes for those really impacted is some positive news.

“We have done our best with the discretionary grant to create a scheme for businesses that weren’t eligible for other government grants and so have missed out on vital funds.

"The other two grants that have launched this week are for those forced to close or those who have had their businesses impacted due to the situation we find ourselves in because of the new tier system.

"I really hope it will help many businesses in that category be able to ride the storm as we know they are really struggling."

There are three other grants available which will support businesses affected by the new Tier system restrictions. LRSG ‘open’ is targeted at hospitality, hotel, bed and breakfast and leisure businesses that have not been legally required to close but which are severely impacted by the new restrictions. The LRSG ‘closed’ is for businesses that were open as usual and then required to close under the new restrictions. There is also a grant of £1,000 available soon for pubs that do not serve food so are not able to open and more details will follow once we’ve had details from central government.

We have just heard that we have been awarded a £2,000 grant to cover the November lockdown period. We have not yet heard about the tier 3 grants and there is no information on tier 4 grants yet.

We are being refunded all licencing fees for 2020/21 (proprietors and drivers) when we get it only time will tell.

Sefton got £100 ... Carlisle £`1400 +250 T4 for Jan +Feb so what is going on

Our drivers are employees and are on flexible furlough so they are all getting at least 80% of their wages.

I would be very interested to know if any Council makes any payment to taxi/private hire firms under the tier 3 restrictions scheme because we have all been told that we are not eligible under the tier 3 scheme.

These latest measures have prompted the government to offer one-off grants of up to £9000 per property for businesses in retail, hospitality and leisure in a bid to help them stay afloat during this latest lockdown, which is expected to last until mid-February in England. Scotland’s lockdown will be reviewed at the end of January.

These grants are in addition to business rates relief and the furlough scheme, which has been extended until the end of April. It’s estimated that 600,000 businesses are expected to benefit from these new grants.

Chancellor Rishi Sunak also confirmed that £594 million will be made available to affected firms outside these sectors, with a total of £4.6 billion set to be distributed to firms and industries across the UK through these new measures.

“Throughout the pandemic we’ve taken swift action to protect lives and livelihoods and today we’re announcing a further cash injection to support businesses and jobs until the spring,” Sunak said.

“This will help businesses to get through the months ahead – and crucially it will help sustain jobs, so workers can be ready to return when they are able to reopen




The Additional Restrictions Grant (ARG) supports businesses that are not covered by other grant schemes or where additional funding is needed.

The Additional Restrictions Grant (ARG) provides local councils with grant funding to support closed businesses that do not directly pay business rates as well as businesses that do not have to close but which are impacted. In addition, larger grants can be given than those made through LRSG (Closed).

Local councils can determine which businesses to target and determine the amount of funding from the ARG.

Eligibility
Local councils have the freedom to determine the eligibility criteria for these grants. However, we expect the funding to help those businesses which – while not legally forced to close – are nonetheless severely impacted by the restrictions.

This could include:

businesses which supply the retail, hospitality, and leisure sectors
businesses in the events sector
business required to close but which do not pay business rates

Taxi drivers are in the highest risk category for catching Covid-19. Many taxi owners are self employed and did not qualify for the small business grant of £10k. A grant would ensure we can make our vehicles safer for both driver and passengers.

Please let us access the £10k small business grant.
